JGC Open Mic 32 - First Timers Gig! - Call For Interest (Event 9th Aug 2025)

Come one, come all, but especially - come first time performers for the JustinGuitar Community Open Mic 32 - special first timer’s edition!

We’d love to encourage more participation in the community OM’s, especially from first timers. We’ve noticed that the OM performer group has started leaning a lot more towards experienced. The OM’s aren’t just for seasoned performers - they are for everyone! This is a guitar learning community, after all.

If you haven’t performed before, we’d love you to have you perform. Experienced OM performers, and everyone else - we’d love to have you in the audience! You’d be hard pressed to find a more welcoming group for a first time performer.

(For those wondering - @TheMadman_tobyjenner usually organises the OM’s, I’m stepping in while he’s
busy with a lot going on IRL).

There are a few critiera to meet, which are below. The most important is that you’re an active community member. However we may be a bit relaxed with the other criteria for this event to get some more participation.

Read on!

Where?
Online via Zoom.
__
When?
Saturday 9 August 2025 @ 19:00 UTC (What’s that in my time zone?)

NOTE

Please ensure you meet the JGC OM Performer Criteria for Open Mics, as detailed in this CFI and in the links below.

I would particularly draw your attention to the first item, namely engaged members of this Community who actively participate, support and encourage their fellow Community members year round.

Thank you.

Performers
There are fifteen performer slots available with an opportunity to play one or two songs. Please state your wish to be considered for a slot in a reply to this topic and tag (using the @ symbol) jkahn

Remember to state your location & UTC time zone.

If I’ve confirmed you’re on the list - that means you’ve got a slot!

Performer slots are available according to the following criteria.

  • We ask that performers be actively engaged members who embody the positive and supportive pay-it-forward ethos we have long nurtured within the Community.
  • We ask that performers have made an Introductory topic, ideally including some information about their learning path with JustinGuitar.
  • We ask that performers have shared recent audio-video of their playing in the Community Recordings section.
  • We ask that performers have previously attended Open Mics as an audience member or performer.

The performer application window closes on or near to 26th July (approximately two weeks before the show) after which a final list of performers will be published. We do try to give all who express an interest the opportunity to perform.

@jkahn - hi, I think I meet the criteria other than the previous performing or audience member (I was meant to be in the audience on the 28th but missed it as I couldn’t turn down an invite see to a Rory Gallagher tribute band) on my birthday weekend! Anyway, if there is a slot I would be delighted (I think) to have a go - either one or two songs (campfire classics probably! I will be in Belfast which is London time.

Hi Jk,
I would like to reserve an audience spot to encourage the first timers and will do more my best to keep it available, but it is often too busy here on a Saturday evening… :crossed_fingers:

And I wish everyone who participates a fun and stress-free preparation :grinning_face_with_big_eyes:

Greetings

Thanks for stepping in JK, appreciate that.

Next time I do an OM it will ‘feel like the first time’ . . . again.

This time I shall be among those present and happy to assist in the running on the night.

It’s been overdue for a bit too long, but better late than never. @jkahn, sign me up as a performer, please.

I’ll join in the audience.

To all potential first timers, I strongly encourage you to give it a go. I performed for the first time this past weekend and it was a great experience. You won’t find a more supportive or encouraging group anywhere else.

Hi JK,

I’d like to have an audience seat, please. Maybe I bring Pom-Poms and play Cheerleader for our debit performers.

Really looking forward to this OM. To all, who are still pondering: It’s now or never and the community is incredibly supportive and a great audience to make this big step. I never regret having done my debut here.

I would love to be an audient. After about 3 and a half months I’m not quite to the point of applying for a OM spot, but I’ll get there. I’ve gone back and watched a few of the past open mic events and they look very welcoming and supportive. I look forward to it!

It’s great to see the interest in this event and the first time performers stepping up. And new audience members too.

I’ll run through the thread within the next couple of days and start to put the performer & audience lists together - just been short on time today!

Find yourself a slow 3 or 4 chord song and jump in Brian, you’ll enjoy it and get plenty of support. :+1:
