JGC Open Mic 32 - First Timers Gig! - Call For Interest (Event 9th Aug 2025)

I would love an audience seat as well. It’s nice to see all the interest.

If Tommy Emmanuel picked up a bass… haha, I don’t think so Alexey . You’re welcome to be in the audience though.

I would enjoy watching all these first time OM peeps.

Should anyone who is learning guitar with Justin and may feel like showing off how far you have come on your journey, try this OM.
You will quite probably make mistakes and feel awful about it, I have and you get over it.
On playback it is never as bad as what you thought at the time.

Come and have some fun, show off how far you have come. :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

I’ve been doing them way too often, so it doesn’t feel awful by now.

@jkahn Hello, JK. Can I register for a performer slot, please?

I am in the UK, UTC +1 for British Summer Time.

Now I just need to sort out my tech, what I am going to play, and my nerves…

No, you’re too good!
Ok, I’m only joking! (well, not about the part of being good!)

No reason for nerves, everyone! Like when in my last open mic I said I was soo tired and will make certainly mistakes, someone shouted “hey, you’re among friends” which is the way it really feels like in these open mics

If some playing will be too bad, I might throw tomatoes on the stage… uhm… or at my screen(?)… but then no one but me will probably notice

@jkahn Oh, is it still possible after my comments to get an audience seat, please?

@jkahn Hi JK. I’m not ready to do an OM yet but hopefully in the not too distant future. I didn’t post a video of me playing yet as I’m very conscious of how bad my recordings are both in technique and sound quality. My shyness is sort of strange because in my job I’ve had regularly to “perform” giving presentations to audiences of over 10K without any nerves.

Need to improve my sound quality too before an open mic

So an audience seat for me this time. But hopefully a slot next time.

Thanks for organising this JK.

Ian

It’s great that this event is generating positive attention.
As @Lisa_S says so rightly - never regretted giving it go. Taking part in the OMs has helped my performance and confidence greatly over the last two years

If you wait until you feel ready, you’ll never do one

Same here - I think the difference was (I’m retired now) that when I was talking in public I felt very comfortable with the material and I was in control. I feel much more vulnerable with an OM.

Having said that, you will never find a better place for a first OM - the support and encouragement is amazing. The audience consists or two types of people - those who have done it and know exactly what you are feeling and those who haven’t done it yet and would really like to be where you are now.

Hope to catch you performing at an OM soon, if not this one.

Thanks for the encouragement. I’m going to try and get my act together for the next one!! Might need some advice about mics and technical setup though.
