That is certainly true!!
Basically, all you need is a device where Zoom is running that has an integrated mic and cam. Even just a smartphone/tablet alone would be sufficient. Of course, you won’t have the audio quality as you would have with microphone and audio interface, but the technical aspect is not a roadblocker.
Nevertheless, lots of people here are happy to help you with some tech advices in case of need. Hope to hear you at a future OM, Ian.
Thanks a lot @Lisa_S I will go carefully through the detailed instructions all about how to set things up for recording and OMs then then post questions if I don’t get it. Don’t want to hijack this thread.
If anyone needs help with tech questions for the coming event - there is a thread for that, please ask away and discuss there: Audio / Video Tech Discussion - dedicated to the First Time Performers Open Mic #32 - #62 by GrumpyMac
@DavidSGuitar goes onto the performer list.
@domi7 I know you were joking, it can be hard for intent to be portrayed in text - it is OK if someone is a seasoned guitar player, or a newbie, as long as this is their first JGC open mic and they’re a member of the community, they’re welcome to perform. 3 chord strummers are welcome as much as shredders or lead virtuosos.
Added to the audience list: @clandev @Malz @TheCluelessLuthier @domi7 @gdbruns @pkboo3 @Prof_Thunder
I would like to be in the audience please JK.
I agree!
nice forcing maneuver there!
I am applying for a seat in the audience - as a first timer. Do the performers get a proper round of applause, does it come through on Zoom?
Yes fully interactive between songs and you can hang around for the after show chat.
Previous recordings here, so you can get and idea.
I’d like to give performing a shot if there’s a slot. Thanks.
Audience seat for me, please
Unfortunately, I most probably won’t be ready to perform this time as I’m currently very busy. Should that change, I might still apply for a performer slot at short notice
Onto the performers list goes @GuitarMommaRN07
Audience ++ @Mari63 @witkatz @Chordy65
… and another pending performer that just needs to post an AVOYP
Hey JK - I was wondering whether you notify the performers that they will be playing (it is just that if I am playing, I will need to figure out the technical side of things and maybe do a bit of practice). Thanks.
Good question @Jonjdarcy. Something that is clear to previous performers but not newbies… which this one is.
If you’re on the list, you’re in! Which means you’re in mate, and so is everyone else that’s asked for a slot to perform!
Depending on how many performers we get, there will be the option of 1 or 2 songs.
I see the bit of boilerplate text in my opening post that could give the wrong impression - I’m going to edit that right now. That is for a regular open mic where if there are too many performer requests we might need to ask someone to step aside (very rare).
Also, for tech help, there are the guides in my opening post and also there is a separate thread (here). So please don’t be shy with testing your setup and asking for help in that thread.
