So as opposed to practicing my Blues BLIM routine today, I got side tracked and thought I would try two new songs. Both were meant to be finger picked - I managed to do a very simple finger picking pattern for Jolene (but not the travis pattern I had planned) and I gave up with the finger picking for Take on Me and ended up just strumming - today’s lesson, need to speed up my finger picking!
had thought of a White Stripes vibe for Jolene but ended up sounding more like Dolly rather than Jack White! As well as the dodgy singing there are a few fumbles in both songs but I am trying to do every song i record as a one take as if it was live (might pluck up the courage to ask for a slot in the August first timers open mic event). J
You put all the elements together really well on both songs Jon. Clean and steady finger picking on Jolene, and I’d like to know how you ordered up the blustery winds and ominous dark clouds - perfect backdrop for Jolene.
Well played on both, Jon, and your singing is more than good enough for AVOYP and certainly this level of performance is more than good enough for that first-timers OM.
Thanks John - it’s funny, I hadn’t thought about that song for like 30 years and then heard a fingerpicked version on a tv series last week (the Last of Us).
Oh, very nice, Jon. Two great song choices. You did so well. I love the environment you are in. Looks like a nice place to just sit back, relax and enjoy playing. Are you in a sun room?
Thank you Pamela - yes it’s a sun room with nice views - I love playing there, but I’m only aloud to play songs when I’m there - my wife hates the practicing sounds (don’t blame her!)
