JustinGuitar on Apple TV

Background: Although, I have the JustinGuitar Lessons & Songs iOS app, I don’t really enjoy using the small screen on my iPhone. I prefer to view Justin’s lessons via the website on my laptop. If not doing that, I tend to go through the Beginner’s Songbook more than use the iOS app. My wife’s iPad would be nicer to use but it and the apps on it are tied to her Apple ID.

When we first got an Apple TV a few years ago, I searched through its App Store for music-related apps and saw that there is a Justin Guitar app which features a selection of his videos. It’s great to be able to comfortably watch Justin’s videos on the large TV screen and pause and rewind, etc using the Apple TV remote control – all without the obnoxious advertising that Youtube inflicts on the viewer. The only downside with this was that the selection of videos was so small.

This small selection of content hadn’t changed over the last 3 years so I assumed this app was abondonware. I’ve searched both Justin’s website and this forum but haven’t come across any mention of this app so this reinforced my thinking that this app is not being actively maintained (or publicised). According to its listing on the Apple TV App Store, it was first released in 2021 by a company called Quickcast (as opposed to Musopia who produce the iOS app) and was last updated in August 2022.

When I checked earlier today, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the video content had greatly expanded: new song lessons, interviews, guest lessons, a ukelele section, a rock/metal section and, for the time of year that’s in it, a Christmas songs section :christmas_tree:. So, thanks to whoever is responsible for adding this new content.
