A post was split to a new topic: Lesson suggestion: How to get rid of hum on single coil guitars
Hi Justin, first of all, I wish you a very successful 2026 and many wonderful things in your life. I really enjoy your lessons, and all your courses are great.
I’m a beginner on the guitar, but I’ve been listening to metal for over 25 years. I’m fascinated by death metal, and thanks to your courses, I’ve learned so many things that I’ve gradually been incorporating into my playing. Since I’m just starting out last year, taking it slow and steady as I should, I play an acoustic guitar. Six months ago, I bought an ESP LTD Arrow 200 electric guitar, and I’ll gradually be acquiring more gear. Currently, I’m using a Sony MHC-V42D speaker tower to amplify the guitar signal (it has a guitar input with an overdrive). This is obviously temporary while I save up for a good amplifier, and I have a question I’d like your help with:
Option 1: Considering that I’m aiming to play death, black, and heavy metal, I thought I could buy an IK Multimedia AXE I/O premium USB audio interface (it’s similar to the Scarlet, according to reviews I’ve read), along with a pair of PreSonus Eris monitors. This would allow me to connect my guitar to the interface and see how it sounds with different amplifiers and pedals included with the AmpliTube 5 SE software on the IK Multimedia AXE. Premium USB audio interface.
Option 2: I’ve also seen good reviews of the Katana “Boss Guitar Electric KTN-100 3 Amplifier,” which has several effects that would help me get to know and learn how to use them on my guitar. I saw that it’s very similar to the Marshall you have and show in the video about amplifier recommendations for beginners.
Since my idea is, as I mentioned, to gradually buy my gear, I’d like to know your opinion on which option you would recommend. Due to budget constraints, I’d have to choose one of the two. Personally, I’d buy a Marshall tube amplifier and analog effects pedals, but that’s beyond my budget. Besides, it would be good to know which effects to apply to my compositions.
Thank you very much for your support.
You may want to ask this of one of the mods to nudge or get info of this sort, someone who can directly speak to Justin. Nowadays he tends to just use his Kemper in the background of the vids.
