Acoustic One

Hello everyone! So Alykat helped me tremendously on this project. I couldnt have done it without her!

So im doing a talentshow for the school and we wrote this song! (Aly wrote the lyrics and melody, I did the chord progression and had the idea!

I ended up with 3 versions and just wanted everyones opinion on which one they like!! Of course we will do the Bright/Happy one for the Talent Show!!

We worked all day on this! This was tough and Aly is coaching me with mixing stuff, needless to say I have learned alot today!! Thanks Aly!!

Heres the 3 different version songs!!

Hi Byron/Allison. Great original composition from you two.
In my order of preference. 2,3,1. I felt your vocal in the bright happy one was a bit too repetitive. Your vocal in the other two had much more variation. The guitar in no. 2 sealed the deal for me.
Well done both of you and I hope the school show goes well.

Thanks sairs!! Yeah the bright one is like that because so the kids can learn it easier if need be! Thanks man! I prefer the rock one but like the acoustic one as well!

Thanks for your input!

Well, firstly you guys are a machine just pumping out songs

This was a tough one. First of all really well done again.

For me, I would agree with Gordo on number 1, just felt a little too vocally repetitive. Really tough call between 2 & 3, I like both for different reasons. I really like the sound of both both instrumentally and vocally but Iā€™m a sucker for acoustic versions so I think I would err towards 3 as my favourite but itā€™s just a personal preference thing.

As I was listening through them (and Iā€™m not even sure I can explain this properly) and humming along I found plenty of moments where instinctively I wanted to go high with the vocal thus creating a ā€˜momentā€™ in the vocal it just felt right, however Iā€™m sure everyone would have their own take on any given song.

Great work guys, always interesting to hear what youā€™re doing. :ok_hand:

Michal

Definitely ā€˜Rock Song Oneā€™: the song sounds more finished in that format; your vocal is considerably better on that version; echos of Neil Young on his ā€˜Rust Never Sleepsā€™ rock side.

Brian

Hi Byron and Aly @AlyKat , this is a very nice song, well done! My preference is the same of Gordon

Uhhhā€¦love too much that electric guitar playing!

Byron you work at school? Which age are the children you work with? Iā€™m a kindergarten teacher and we play and sing quite a lotā€¦not everyday but almost! Iā€™ve got my old Classical Guitar at school and a few Ukes, woodsticks, maracas and all those little instruments for the kids to be happily noisy :joy:

Thanks Silvia! Thats cool! Yes I do im a custodian! I just so happen to get to play for the kids and such sometimes! So fun! Some of the kids sing better than i do lol!

Thanks guys! Yeah I couldnt quite nail the bright/happy theme with my vocals sadly! Its repetitive for the youngsters so that they can learn it easy. Thanks for everyones comments and feedback! I personally like the Rock one myself then the acoustic a big 2nd! Thanks guys! Aly helped me a ton with this we worked on it all day yesterday!

It is elementary! Do you teach music class? Thats really cool!

Thank you everyone for the nice comments! @sairfingers sair @CD02 @beejay56 @Silvia80

There were a lot of restrictions or obstacles to work around on this project:

  1. It had to be a simple song that could be taught quickly to the Principal who is also playing along using an acoustic guitar & is a beginner
  2. There needed to be a very simple/repetitive vocal melody that could be taught to the kids as they are the ones who will be singing the song
  3. The lyrics needed to be kid appropriate & easy to learn/memorize
  4. There had to be a positive & clear message

Byron is going to pitch this idea to the music teacher on Monday, i tried to steer him in a direction I thought the music teacher would approve of. Being a teacher, what do you think @Silvia80 ?

Never helped write a childrens song before, it was fun!

Byron, Aly @AlyKat if youā€™re asking me about the Lyrics, given that there are a few words I canā€™t understand, being my english listening skills a bit weak, the overall message is so positive and encouraging and seems very appropriate for a talent show! If you ask me about the Music I am no Music Teacher and what I can say is that to me this is a really good song and I like it much.

The best part of this is that you all at school are sharing Music in your school community and itā€™s just great! Because Music is meant to be shared and the good vibes of the singing children and adult people supporting eachother are something special! You breath them in the air!

Bet I know what Iā€™m saying!

The first time I played at a school party where all the parents and families were attending I was freaking out and I was emotionally overwhelmedā€¦Iā€™ll never forget my colleague telling me no one was noticing my mistakes during the rehearsals as the groove was good enough to make them all singingā€¦and Iā€™ll never forget her giving me a massage on my shoulder reassuring me with a smile and saying ā€œSee, anything is gonna turn out just fine!ā€ You can tell this to your Principal if he is a bit unconfident!

Sharing and team job make anyone involved grow so much as musicians!

So letā€™s :crossed_fingers::crossed_fingers::crossed_fingers: also those of feet that the Music Teacher will like it as much as we all do here and will be ready to share your enthusiasm!

Please let us know how it goes!

Woohoo - I love this!

Byron, could you possibly post the lyrics?
I was going to answer, but the lyrics would help me in giving suggestions, I think.

Great job, and I agree that the #2 is the best.

Iā€™m with everyone else here that #2 was the best - the vocals clearly stand out above the music and that created more tension and difference between the guitar and the voice - and that draws the listener in more than the other two versions do. Totally understand why you will be going with the bright and happy version for the school though. Good luck with the project!

Ok, had a little more time and relistened with headphones - now I got the lyrics!
Great! Love your song!
It will be hard to beat you in the talent show

Prefer version 2 also.
On my loudspeakers, I found the guitar and the vocal didnā€™t sound like in the same mix. Strangely a bit less on my headphones. But as Iā€™m no expert, I canā€™t really give great advice here :slightly_frowning_face:

One thing that I would like to change if I was involved, would be to change the guitar between verse and chorus . Sounds like youā€™ll have two guitars, you and the Principal.
If that would be asked too much for the Principal to change between the two, maybe he could continue the same and you add some excitement with the second guitar?

And I was wondering if you could sing like in the rock version for the Verse, and like in the happy version for the chorus, higher? Would that work?

I really like that song, my only thought in terms of (subtle) critique is more contrast between the sections!

All the best to you two, Byron and Aly
and congratulations on the already achieved!
