Les Deux Guitares - Tchan Tchou Vidal - Gypsy Jazz Learning - WIP

Well, after… longer than I care to admit, I started sort of practising again.
Seems like the whole thing started converging to some kind of balance since I became a father two years ago and, yes, I can now find 15-30 minutes (at night usually) - if I’m not knackered - to practise.

So, this is something I’ve been working on the last week or so. Still a work in progress, I’m only half way through the song and I have to nail down this last bar.
Not that the rest is perfect but please factor in the performance anxiety too.

Almost rare opportunity to be on my own today so I recorded myself and wanted to share.
Feels a bit strange to play that on an electric but I don’t have an acoustic at the moment and, to be honest, I like how this one turned out and how it sounds.

Anyway, honest and good-intentions feedback is welcome so please let me know what you think!
I hope you like this!

Allright! That’s coming along nicely. Keep it up!

Question: do you use a metronome?
I’ve noticed some hesitations between phrases, so i’d like to suggest you slow down your playing (along with the metronome) to get the phrases just right.

When you get it going (without hesitations) you can speed things up a bit. The song has different tempi, so that"ll be something to work on too.

It’ll be so rewarding once you get it down.

Have fun!!

Thanks for watching and listening!

Yes, I noticed that and I realised while playing too. I don’t use a metronome, to be honest I never got used to using one.
The hesitation is partly because I haven’t nailed everything down properly, compounded with the fact that I was very aware I was recording myself which didn’t help, mentally and emotionally.

Most likely I will not go further for the time being until I nail those things down.

I can relate to that. Been there too. But i can say, once you get over the hesitation, the initial troubles and thinking “why am i even bothering?”, it becomes your best friend.
I can’t say how helpfull it’s been these past years. It helps you nail your rythm, it helps with progressions, scale practice, etc…
Give it a try.

Oh yes, i can relate to that. I struggle with this a lot. Every time i try to record myself, i’m already tinking it won’t be good enough. (i have to get out of that loop).
You got as far as recording AND posting. That’s something i still have to do. But plan on doing so. So congrats to you for doing that!

I will give it another go and see how far I go this time.

Thank you so much!
It’s not easy for me at all.
Even for that short video I think I had some 7 takes before I ran out of time (nursery run ).
I had done another couple of clips some two years ago but I’m still far from a performer in public
And I haven’t really practised in two years but hopefully I’m getting back to it. Carving out some time at night…

Loved that little run at the end of this. Agree it needs a little work with a metronome, but you’re like 95% of the way there on that part. Sounds good!

Thank you David!
That has been the trickiest bit so far.
Well that, and the chord changes at around the 0:40 mark.

Thank you for the feedback, much appreciated!

I loved it. I believe I recognise it from somewhere, it was very evocative of hearing it before…on a Bouzouki?
Anyway thanks for sharing and good luck getting enough sleep!

On a bouzouki? Could be! I have no idea, but I’ll try to see what I can find.
I discovered this when I was liftsharing with a friend whose guitar hero is Django Reinhardt so we were listening to a lot of Gypsy jazz.

Oh and thanks for the sleep! It’s not too bad anymore but I wouldn’t say no to some more!
