We wanted to share an important update regarding some of the songs currently available in the app. Due to licensing changes, a few songs will need to be removed from the app and we wanted to give you an advanced warning of these changes. Please note this doesn’t affect a huge amount of the library currently available in the app.
The good news is:
We’ve secured the rights to keep the most played songs from this licenser in the app—these tracks account for a massive 70% of all the song plays in their catalog available in the app. So, your favorite tunes from this provider are staying put!
We’re also working hard behind the scenes to bring lots of exciting new songs to the app in 2025.
These changes will not take place until the end of the year and once again the affected songs are not the most popular tracks from this license holder and only a small portion of the library is affected.
We’re committed to keeping the Justin Guitar app the best place for you to learn and play songs you love.
Thanks for your continued support and understanding!
fully understood. I appreciate everything you do related to the app. Could you give us a list of those songs that cannot stay due to the licence holders?
While we aim to be transparent about changes to our content library, we typically don’t distribute comprehensive takedown lists for several reasons:
First, licensing agreements often contain confidentiality clauses restricting our ability to share detailed information about content removals. Second, these lists can change frequently as negotiations continue and rights are renewed or expire.
What we can do is if you have specific songs you are working on at the moment we can inform you if it will be affected or not.
The likelihood that you will be affected is very slim though as we are keeping the most popular songs from this license holder based on the song play counts throughout 2024 and only those with a few plays are being removed.
We apologise that we cannot be more transparent in this matter and we hope that you understand the reason why we cannot provide the full list of songs affected.
That’s weird that such clauses are included in these agreements for music, considering that TV streaming services publish this information all the time, and use it to give folks notice so they can maybe finish content they were watching or were thinking about watching. And they publish specifics of what’s coming to get folks excited about new content.
I have 100+ songs in my favourite list, and an other 100+ in other playlists. Can you suggest an easy way to export the song names so that I can double check myself on January 1st what is missing?
We sincerely apologize, but unfortunately, there isn’t a straightforward way to double-check this, especially given the extensive number of songs saved.
If you have specific songs in mind, we’d be happy to verify those for you. However, reviewing the entire collection could inadvertently expose the full list, potentially leading to legal complications.
Maybe I wasn’t clear enough in my previous message. I don’t need you to verify the songs for me.
What I’m trying to do is noting down the songs in my favorites on my own, so that after Jan 1st I can double check myself privately which songs are still available and which ones I need to learn in a different way going forward.
I don’t have any intention to share my list here in the forum or with you. All that I am asking for is an easy way to export the names. What I want to avoid is writing down a 3-digit number of songs on paper.
Unfortunately, this is not a feature within the app to be able to export track listings at this moment in time but we will add it to our feature request list for 2025 in case we encounter another situation like this in the future.
I suspect the best approach is to take screenshots of all your playlists. This will still be fairly labor-intensive, but probably still easier than copying by hand
And more recent Apple devices provide a pretty good image to text functionality that you could use to convert the images to some kind of a text file or spreadsheet.
Presumably, other platforms also have this capability.
