Grade 3 player here, and really proud of my progress. Life By the Drop was one of my “Dreamer” songs that I’ve turned into a tough, but playable “Developer” songs. Open to constructive feedback. Apologies for the audio, I recorded it on my phone!
Also, I’ve added a short video from one of the first riffs I played when I started, as a way for me to look back on my progress. Enjoying Grade 3 so far, and a lot to learn in the future.
Well you should be proud of your progress! Life by the Drop looks like a fun song to learn, and you’re putting together all the pieces quite nicely. The next step for you (and me!) is to get comfortable enough to not be looking at your hands so much. Great work Ethan.
Thanks so much, and I agree. I’ve found that I can generally strum and change chords without looking, but when it comes to precision strumming and picking out certain strings, I tend to keep my focus looking down.
Has anything specific helped you with learning to strum without looking at your hands, aside from general practice?
Good stuff Ethan. I’m not familiar with the song but got the impression your timing was a bit variable. Perhaps have a few runs through with a metronome or drum track.
As for watching your hands, as you said in your post, it’s just a matter of practise and you’ll get there.
Well done.
