Looking For Book Recommendations - Guitar & Amp History & Reference

The title is sort of self-explanatory, I hope, but because more is better. . .

I’m looking for the quintessential books on the history of electric and acoustic guitars as well as guitar amplifiers. Which titles are the go-to reference for Gibson, or Martin acoustics? Which book covers the Fender world of amplifiers and leaves no room for wanting more?

I’m a big fan of the YouTube channel 5 Watt World and their “Short History” series and I think that this is a rabbit hole I’d like to jump into.

I’m also interested in what I guess we could call the second tier of brands, for want of a better term, such as Gretsch, Rickenbacker, Danelectro, et al.

So, what have you got? :face_with_monocle: :books:

Cheers :beers:

Keith at 5 Watt World usually points out book references that he uses to research his videos. I would start there since you are already familiar with his videos.

This is currently available on amazon for $1.99 as a kindle download. If you like it you could buy the hard copy.

Another book. It’s a coffee table book but supposedly has quite a bit of info.

I like coffee table books, I’m going to be stalking my local used bookstores for this one.

Hi Richard. A search lead me to this old topic, and here’s a book (revised 2022) that may not be deep guitar history, but it sure is fun to browse - yet another distraction when I should be practicing.

I appreciate the tip on 5 Watt World.
I really enjoyed their discussions on amps and guitars
