Lucky Man & Lonely No More

You and I know that every time we learn a song and share it, the creative artist benefits. I am miserable, but have love for this song:

Very good Robert, your guitar playing was lovely and the singing in the main also lovely, just one or two little wobbles that I;m sure you can fix.

Hi John, Thanks for the response. If I know the two it’s that the video framing was not good. And 2, my phone only records one channel or side. I have crappy recording equipment and some day I will be fortunate to get better, but I do need advice on what is good. The framing is because I was in somebody’s kitchen and that was the carmra angle at the moment.
But it might be other things I could work on and I am eager to hear!!! Please send me your take. I appreciate critique.

Maybe the link was a bird, fowl…

Here is another:

Link was fine, Robert. A soulful song performed with feeling.

From a simple viewing perspective, I’d suggest record in a landscape mode and then upload to YouTube as a video rather than a short.

Hi DP! As always your critique is good stuff. I did record Luxky Man, sic, in horizotal. It plays on Instagram that way. Not sure how I got the other framing in my YouTube upload.

So you know, I do try. But at 65 years and the frailties I endure, I am left behind.

I will try to do as you say, but I only have what I have. … ? Question: is it me or does the software really maneuver my content?

Someday, I will buy a real microphone and give up on this old glitzi cell phone. It is all frustrating, because I just want to play a tune, put it in the air, and hopefully somebody will play one too.

Hi DavidP… another thought - I did record and post a song in vertical to YouTube. It looks good in terms of showing my hand struming action and my other hand, left, fretwork. Plus any lip reader can see my vocal. Please let me know about this one; maybe I should do it this way:

Always a pleasure, Robert.

Don’t stress, we all enjoyed your recording. The format is a minor matter.

I have next to no experience recording video on a phone and uploading directly to YouTube and have never used any other Social Media, like Instagram. I’m not far behind you at 60 but you are ahead of me using something like Instagram. But I am fortunate to work in tech so mostly I can figure it out.

I suspect that YouTube shorts would always be converted to a portrait orientation, given how I see shorts in YouTube. Now how it does that I don’t know. My guess would be it has some kind of AI-assisted algorithm for cropping the landscape to become portrait.

Best I think is not to upload as a short. Now I don’t know how to upload a short from a phone, so can’t tell you what not to do

What a great song, and super playing and vocal. So much feeling, dynamics.

As for the video. I guess it is personal taste. You are right that you can watch you play. But the angle is not that good if I want to watch with a view to really study your technique. For that I think straight-on landscape is more suitable.

So if you ever wanted specific feedback on technique I’d return to that format, phone positioned straight-on ie not a worms-eye view from below.

For simply sharing so we can watch and enjoy you play, this quite fine.

Very much appreciate your comments and thoughts David. I’m on a shoestring, but your input helps me forward. Very nice to have you as a caring soul.

My wish is to get together a good mic to record. And because all my stuff is “one take” I’d like a good frame with good lighting camera. I’m not that pretty, but I’d like to see my guitaring. I get better for it.

It really is great to post with Justin and have the feedback you gift me. Thanks again DP! _R

Great dynamics in your guitar play and vocal Robert, well done. I don’t know the song but I enjoyed your version a lot.

Can’t offer any advice on the technical front as I only ever record using my phone, upload to my YouTube channel then copy the link onto the Community website.

I’m glad, always happy to try and help, Robert.

How do you currently record? I am assuming a phone. If so then I think there are mic options for a phone.

Based on what I have seen, I think your video quality is fine. What may be useful is some kind of stand so you can position the phone in a position that allows a good video composition.

For posting on YT and AVOYP I think direct on in landscape is based, far enough back to have the whole head at the top and the entire guitar.

good people here!

Don’t know how this one got past me. I really enjoyed that. First time for me for that song but you really captured it.
Nice job all around.
