Mac’s recordings : Karma Police and Handbags and gladrags

Hello :slight_smile:

I take guitar lessons with a teacher at the local music school and we had group practice where several students played together 8 times a year and at the end of the year there’s a concert
I was supposed to participate but I can’t because of my health ( there’ll be too many people , noise , light and stress )

So I decided to record the 2 songs we worked on at school and to share them here with all the community as an AVOYP :smiley:

I played them the way they were taught at school

Handbags and gladrags ( by Rod Steward ) :

Karma police ( by Radiohead ) :

Both songs seemed impossible to play when we started to learn them last october !
I worked a lot on barre chords , learned how to play a Bm ( even though Im using the 3 fingers Bm here ) and I practiced a lot to be up to speed

I hope you’ll like them :slight_smile:

Hello Deborah, I enjoyed both of your videos, but especially Karma Police. I want to hear more of your songs.

Niiice! Congrats on the barre chords, that’s quite a big step and you seem to flow well in and out of them!

Nice work Deborah. Good rhythm in both songs, and you nailed all those barre chords.
Keep em comin’ :+1:

Thanks so much Deborah. I just love that Rod Stewart song and I think your guitar playing worked really well on that recording.

Well done, Deborah. I recall your updates from back when you started. Wonderfully inspirational to see the results of your disciplined dilligent practice over the months.

To echo what Richard said, if you can make a video like this then you can just do the same for the OM.

What you can do is setup Zoom if you don’t already have it on your device, start a meeting with you only the participant and become familiar with the audio setup, specifically original sound. You can also record that meeting to get a sense of how it will all sound.

Deborah

Wonderfully clean chord changes and varying strum patterns while maintaining tempo. Very well played. Many singers would be pleased to have you accompany them.

Hello Mac. Really good job on these. I truly enjoyed the listen. It’s nice that you can go the Music School and learn and practice with a group. So glad you are posting your songs for us to hear. Well done!

Hi Deborah,
Not only did your teacher/school do a good job on teaching them, but they also have good taste in music, (which is arguably more important) :laughing:
Both performances were lovely. Steady strumming with clean chord changes throughout :grinning_face:
Did I see you are thinking of joining the OM for first-timers? Either or both of these would be great candidates to have a go at.
Love the Gretch! :open_mouth:
If you are looking for positive criticism, you might want to look at your strumming movements during Karma. There are times you stop and times you go double-speed. You are always in time with the music, but I was told it’s a good habit to get into to keep the arm moving throughout.
I did a very basic version of this before, but am revisiting it. What’s the chord sequence you play to the words ‘like a detuned radio’? I can’t quite make out one of them.
Once again
Bravo! :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Hey Deborah–you are an inspiration to me!
I’ve yet to belly up to the bar and perform, and you nailed those barre chords (my barred F chord has been heavily hammered, but yet not nailed).

AND you looked cool as a cucumber!
Looking forward to seeing more from you.

@Willsie
thanks a lot :slight_smile:
maybe there’ll be more videos later this year ^^

@MollyT
thanks a lot :slight_smile:
I did cheat a bit with the barre chords
I changed the way I place my fingers on A and E so that there s just a slide to do to play the next barre chord

@sclay thanks :slight_smile:

@Richard_close2u
thanks
I hope I ll do better in fact , because I had to do several takes to record the videos :rofl:

@Prof_Thunder
thanks :slight_smile:
I really like that song

@DavidP

@pkboo3

yeah it was nice to practice with a group but I fear I wont be able to do it again next year :frowning:
the sessions will be 10 kms away and I do not drive
I need to find a carpool … If I dont I wont be able to go

@brianlarsen
thanks a lot :slight_smile:
My teacher is Brit , so he obviously has a better in music than us , French !
But I was the one who picked Handbags and gladrags

Yes I registered as a participant at the first timer OM but I think Ill try something different
maybe Before you accuse me from module 13

I love my Gretch too , a nice non expensive guitar , easy to play , and great sound !
beautiful too

Oh no , not the arm moving again :rofl:
Its going to follow me all my life :rofl:

I had to check to answer your question , the chord sequence is : G G/f# C C/B

@mundeli
thanks :slight_smile:
you should definitely try to perform !
Keep on trying and practicing your F barre chord , it will come :slight_smile:
When I record Im always nervous about doing mistakes , Im glad to know it does not show :sweat_smile:

I just realised that my tone knob was fully turned on a muffled sound :sweat_smile:
it must have moved when I put the guitar in its bag
thats why my tone was different

Im a noob :rofl: :sweat_smile:

Hi Deborah,

Karma Police sounded great - if a little distorted - possibly from the recording?
Chords cleanly played. Right in the groove with the backing track.
Great work.

Well done Debs, you got those down pretty well, nice steady strumming, good chord changes and no nasty notes, all nice and cleanly fretted.
Keep it up, those are good!
