Merle (The O'Collective)

Back with another of my contributions to my friend’s project. It’s a fun track although the subject matter could be considered a bit … quirky.

I contributed all of the guitars and most of the keyboard parts.

Oh excellent and so entertaining, very 70’s/80’s, reminded me of ‘In Every Dream Home a Heartache’ :guitar: :sign_of_the_horns:

Thanks for giving a listen. It was a fun song to contribute to.

Not a tune I knew so I looked up a video. I’m not sure I hear the connection.

The lyrics are are about a sex doll

Most people write songs about broken hearts, true love or overcoming life challenges. Then there are those who break out of the mainstream and sing about their sex doll Merle. To each his/her own. The song reminds me of the Kinks’ album Schoolboys in Disgrace.

Hence my characterization as “quirky”. Not to dodge responsibility but I actually don’t deserve the writing credit Jim gave me here. I layered on instrumental parts to make the track more interesting but the songwriting here was all him; to me it should have been a co-production credit. Apparently his girlfriend was watching a documentary about sex robots and it triggered the idea. I think some of the lyrics are pretty clever (“like my over he’s self-cleaning”).
