Minor case of GAS

I’ve had my eye on these two wants-not-needs for a while and finally gave in and treated myself.

I do like the Jazz 3 picks so far, I was surprised how small they are but I seem to be more in control of the pick than with my usual orange tortex ones.

I haven’t tried any of the fancy features of the tuner yet but am having fun comparing it to my usual tuner side by side. They don’t always agree lol.

I’ve just this week ended an eight month period of using Jazz iii exclusively. I find it hard to switch between picks, so I use the same picks for acoustic, electric, lead and rhythm. I really liked the Jazz iii, but I just can’t maintain enough control with fast constant 16th note strumming (it doesn’t help that I’m a leftie who plays right-handed, so pick manipulation is with my non-dominant hand). So for now I’m back on something a bit bigger and thinner in my eternal search for the perfect ā€˜do it all’ pick.

I have StroboStomp HD, my only pedal. :slightly_smiling_face:Fantastic tuner, I am sure you will be happy with the clip version.

The Jazz III XL are slightly bigger; I find them the perfect pick, lead, rhythm, whatever,
; and have been using them exclusively now for a couple of years.
The nylon ones are the best for me - 1.38mm
They call 'em the ā€œBlack Stiffosā€ā€¦

I do love my regular jazz iii - I think they are 1.4mm but some of the stuff I’m doing right now is borderline funk strumming and I just can’t hang on to them after 3 minutes of that
Going back to a ā€˜normal’ pick after the jazz iii felt like running in clown shoes, but after a couple of days I was pretty much back to where I was.

The good thing ( for me) about the Jazz III XL is its size falls between a standard Jazz III and a normal pick.

Thanks Shane, I’ve ordered some :+1:

I’ve also been on a best pick quest recently. I have Jaz III and Jaz III XL, Max Grips, Tortex and triangular Gator Grips. Still not settled on works best but my touch is getting lighter so I am gravitating towards picks above 1mm.

But I have some hard to find Ibanez Rubber Grips that are medium hard extra hard. Feel good and give a subtle touch but still not sure on my GO TO.

I am convinced this will run and run

The website says the XL is ideal for the ā€œplayer who appreciates both size and firmnessā€.

Try Stealth III AttakPik. They are truly incredible. I don’t have any affiliation, apart being a happy customer.

I use Jim Dunlop 427PXL Ultex Xl Jazz for both acoustic and electric. Love the tone they produce. Really easy to manipulate back when they move a bit as well. They are 1.38mm

Hi Boris, where did you get them from. Might be worth a try.

I found these recently…

Ernie Ball Prodigy picks… they are available in several shapes & a couple of different thicknesses… made of non-slip Delrin with a very nicely beveled edge… I’m finding them easier to hang onto than the Jazz III when strumming with a ā€œlight touchā€. Really mellow tone as you’d expect from a 1.5mm pick.

I order from their website directly, they ship to the UK.

Stealth III Guitar Pick – Smaller, Thicker, More Control | Attak Pik – AttakPik

I see now that you can get it from Amazon UK, but it is more expensive.

Acoustik Attak STEALTH III Structured Guitar Pick - Small Beveled Guitar Pick, Unique Tone, No-Slip Grip (10 Pack, Crimson) : Amazon.co.uk: Musical Instruments & DJ

These picks are designed starting from Jazz III design and improving few things. If you like Jazz III, you will like these as well.

I bought a mix pack that contained a variety of their offerings. I think the Stealth III is the one that I also like a lot. I still like a 0.6 Dunlop Max Grip for acoustic, but I always grab the Stealth when I play electric.

Thanks.
I like the Jazz III, though if anything, they’re a tad small. I see the Stealth III is a couple of ml longer. The XL is longer than the Ultex Sharp 2.0 that I’m currently using.

A fine rabbit hole I’ve tumbled into! Having fun learning a solo, one pick at a time!
