Oh my, oh my… :face_holding_back_tears: You all are so kind and encouraging, I’m a little bit overwhelmed - in a very positive way! A heartfelt thank you to all of you who watched, liked and/or commented. It really means a lot. :blush:

Before answering individually, one thing I should clarify, as it came up on several posts. With “I suck at 6/8” I did not mean the fingerpicking pattern (thank you basic fingerstyle lesson in the beginner Grade :slight_smile:), but I realized, when I wanted to lift the chorus, I just couldn’t strum in 6/8. My strumming hand always wants to do 4/4. Glad the Pick on 1 and Hit on 4 finally worked out. Even here, I often drifted into 4/4 and it was kind of frustrating. I think even in the video there is a tendency towards a little feel of 4/4 having the hit on 2 and 4. For future songs to learn, I will pick a few 6/8 ones to get more used to it and broaden the variety of accompaniment. :slight_smile:

The songs have not been rated in that sense, but some of the fellows also liked the song. I’m also pleased with the outcome and moreover, it was loads of fun. The two other ones in the queue are German, but I plan to also write a little more in English again.

That was the biggest surprise for me as well. And even with not too many time per day. It was nicely broken down, so you had to focus on one thing only. On the other hand, I recall a song I wrote as teen that took me 30 mins. I need to re-record it, it’s not too bad. :rofl:

Thanks, I’m a little proud of that, too. I shortly shifted the tonal center to D, so that coming back to the original key of G via C was a nice surprise. :slight_smile:

Wow, that’s a little surprising, thank you! I did more recordings lately, that helped with the nerves. The smile comes from the background of the song. An old sketch that airs every year on New Year’s Eve in Germany. It always makes me giggle and I got this vibe transferred well, it seems. :slight_smile:

What can I add that hasn’t already been said above? Only thing that wasn’t mentioned I think is the tempo… it was just right for New Years… not too bouncy or upbeat yet not melancholy or depressing… I got the feel that “the same” isn’t good or bad - it just IS! :+1:t2::clap:t2::ok_hand:t2:

One thing that I don’t get is the reference to Sophie. Maybe you can explain for those of us who haven’t heard the reference?

“You’ve got to hide your love away” is one I really like, just as an example! :slight_smile:
Sometimes after practicing it, I was doing the next 4/4 song in 6/8 too accidentally and it worked also :grinning_face:

That was one catchy tune. I caught myself repeating the chorus with you. :grinning_face: I think it is excellent, you obviously know a thing or two about writing songs. You also did a great job playing and singing as well. As you mentioned, it does need a bit of variation, it becomes repetitive. I like the bridge for that reason as it breaks the pattern. You could vary the rest by playing a bit with tempo, maybe try a key change, introduce another guitar layer… Just few ideas.

That was actually really hard to figure out. When it started, it was quite slow with the verse. Then when the chorus was added, I played that way faster. Tried to meet in the middle. The first attempt was too fast, especially once the wordy bridge joined the ride. :sweat_smile: My final recording for the challenge then was a tad too slow, but with that version here, I think that’s where it should live. :slight_smile:

In Germany, there is a tradition that every Year on New Year’s Eve the same sketch is shown (on almost all public tv stations). It’s called “Dinner for One or The 90th Birthday”. It’s well over 50 years old now. Miss Sophie celebrates her 90th birthday with her 4 closest friends, except the last of them died 25 years ago. So her Butler James has to step into the roles of all 4. And drink for all of them… The most prominent and actually only sentence of importance is Miss Sophie saying “The same procedure as EVERY Year, James”. But before I type too much, just take a look if you like:

Yes, I think it’s a little too much the same, the same, the same… sorry, I got carried away. :rofl: Thanks for your suggestions on this, I will think about them and see, what I can come up with. Most tempting, for a kind of studio version, is the additional guitar layer. But even a difference in the accompaniment itself will help in case I play and sing on my own. :slight_smile:

Pam, here is the link to the video they had on their YouTube for the 7-day-challenge. You can do it on your own as well, the 7 steps are explained there. You just don’t get the prompts from them. I don’t know, whether they will host it again soon.

indeed it is quite a while ago, I think it was early 60ies. But some jokes are just timeless or age very well. It’s still a little funny, that these two were so popular (and kind of still are) in Germany, but not in the UK. :slight_smile:
