Hello dear guitar friends,
long time no see in this section of the community. ![]()
Before a weak moment of insanity (just kidding, I really enjoy it so far) made me sign up for BLIM 4, I already signed up for the 7 day songwriting challenge hosted by How To Write Songs (some folks of you know them) to channel my inner songwriter again and tickle the creativity again. Even though I didnāt expect to fully finish a song in that short time, I did! What a feeling. ![]()
The main things to take home for me: Not writing because of āno timeā or āonly a few minutes per dayā is just a stupid excuse. It is possible even within a busy schedule when you break it down and focus on one specific thing in short sessions. Also, thereās no need to āwait until creativity strikesā. Itās coming while doing. And yes, this lecture is mainly for myself, to keep that in mind and write, for what itās worth! ![]()
So to stop my ramblings just a few notes on the song itself: We had a prompt to write about, whatever comes up to āNew Yearās Eveā - now the Germans among us will know why I chose this title (and maybe a handful others
). So I did and came up with what follows in a moment. I decided to write in 6/8 time and guess what, I suck at accompanying in 6/8 (hardly ever use it), so a basic picking pattern must do it for now. This definitely need some more variation. Also not sure how to link the bridge properly for now.
Before I finally post it (sorry for the wall of text): Feedback is always welcome!
Apologies for the low audio, itās all my phone can do (I checked all the settings, itās truly disappointing).
Lyrics
Verse 1:
The last night of the year, time to reflect
My resolution-list gets resurrected
Not a single bullet could be checked
Instead, crossed out years get collected
Pre-Chorus:
As Miss Sophie said
Chorus:
The same procedure as every year
The same, the same, the same
The same procedure as every year
The same, the same, the same
Verse 2:
My jogging shoes stare at me in disgust
Tasting the cold smoke of all my last cigarettes
All the āmust readsā on my shelf collecting dust
Superficial ideals turn into regrets
Pre-Chorus + Chorus
Bridge:
Does the calendar tell me when itās time to change?
Does the calendar tell me whatās within my range?
Does the calendar tell me Iām ready to adjust?
No, itās not the calendar I should trust
I change whenever Iām ready to do
Having the willpower to push through
Itās not tied to the change of year
āCause otherwise it willl be
Chorus
Outro
The Same
The Same
The Same, The Same, The Same
Thanks for checking in. ![]()
