Very interesting session, thanks!

I know there were too many questions for you to answer them all live, but several people repeated my question so I’ll ask it here, on mics:

I notice Justin uses a small mic clipped inside the hole of his acoustic guitar. Can you talk about how that compares to a mic on a mic stand, and what sort of mic I should use if I want to try that method?

That tiny mic is part of the ‘electro-acoustic’ system of his Froggy Bottom guitar.

He had it done as an after-purchase installation.

Info: … fitted with a K&K Trinity Onboard system, mic, under-bridge pickups, and an additional Dimarzio Black Angel magnetic pickup which I use for driving effects. They come from a stereo jack and are split into two cables on my pedalboard.

Nick Benjamin was responsible for the setup and did an amazing job. This guitar plays and sounds sweeter than any other acoustic I’ve ever owned!

If you want to plug an acoustic into an autio interface or anything else, you need no more than a simple clip-in clip-out soundhole pickup. A modestly priced yet effective type is a Seymour Duncan Woody. You can pay to have a full electro- kit installed at greater cost.

BTW; If I had more time, I would have mentioned that many digital pedals act like audio interfaces too. Meanwhile, they can emulate grat sound, both as learned “profiles” as amp sims and effects.

Example is dit affordable Valetone GP-50, which I am considering to experiment with as practice/concept record/live gig backup tool
