The music school where I take singing lessons had a summer concert and I put my name forward again to be part, twenty-five performers almost all children and a few adults. This was held in smaller venue than one earlier in the year, local Arts Centre, it is a converted farm complex which has art galleries, exhibitions areas and some small craft workshops. Oh, and pub – all very successful.
They had converted what was large barn into a theatre, holds about 120 people in tiered seats and would say it was about threequarters full. As I am practicing hard for the up and coming Guitar Club Concert later in the month, I thought I would just do a song out of my repertoire, Lindisfarne’s - Meet me on the Corner. One of the songs I did at JG OM24
So here is the crowd shot footage using an iPhone taken by my wife – my harshest critic and she tells me how it is, no sugar coating, don’t think she was very impressed, but I gave it a go.
It was dark and my guitar was not plugged, nor did I have a microphone so quite a challenge to perform in such a large space without any electronic assistance but nevertheless it is all part of the learning experience. I was surprised how loud the guitar sounded given that Dorothy was near the back as for the singing I was very conscious how large the space was, so I sang much louder than I have every done before at least that’s my excuse.
Most sincere congrats! You did really well without any amplification aids; besides, performing in front of the audience always provides an additional challenge.
Hi Michael, that was very good, the guitar playing nice and steady and I liked especially the singing. And all of it just like that without microphone. Great stuff!
Thanks, I was reasonably happy about the guitar as far as recall I only played a couple of wrong chords but just kept going not sure I agree with your praise for the singing, but I do my best. Doing both in front of a face to face audience is quite a challenge.
Thanks, you don’t get many chances to do this sort of thing so just get on and embrace it. I am glad you liked the text, I like to give some background to whole thing, rather than just post the video and here is me performing.
