This is my cover of Ain’t No Sunshine by Bill Withers, as taught by Jerry’s Guitar Bar. I am still struggling with the base run and will continue to work on that on my own, but it is time for me to move on to the next song. I hope you enjoy, thanks for giving a listen!
Nice job, Benji! That’s a great song and you did a great job performing it.
Thanks deiussum!
Good stuff Benji. You’ve clearly been working on that bass run, it’s a skill that will work with other songs too and I liked the percussive slaps.
I loved your wholehearted engagement, rhymically, with your performance. Your strongest point I’d say. The rest will become more polished with practice I think.
Nice job! Been wanting to tackle this one. Good work!
My dad was an autobody teacher at a trade school many years ago. The school had a wonderful connection with a deaf school and brought in a lot of deaf students into the trades. My dad particularly befriended one of them. George was quite a character and a very good football player along with bodyman. My dad would drive him to and from school from time to time. George loved this song because he could feel the percussion (I KNOW I KNOW I KNOW I KNOW) when it came on the radio, This song always reminds me of that story.
Nicely played, Benji; cool little bass runs added in.
Well played …
Nicely done Benji, congrats on the picking and especially singing and keeping the picking pattern steady

Thanks sairfingers, I found the percussion difficult as well… Guess I wouldn’t make a very good drummer… Thanks for the listen!
Thanks Willsie! Yeah, it’s better than when I started. I’ve never done any kind of percussion while playing (the tapping during the long chorus), and the bass run is more accentuated in between the words in the original version, not with the words. I just can’t do that yet. I think playing with the song will help me eventually get there.
That’s awesom Miljoy! Thanks for the listen and sharing your connection to the song…
Thanks Elixir, I can’t quite play it like the original, as the hammer ons are done in between the words, not with them, but I’ll keep trying to get there… Thanks for the listen!
Well done, @browan377 . You don’t HAVE to play like the original. play it your own way and have fun…
Thanks CD, it’s a challenging song for me, but one of my faves.
Thanks Elixir! Yeah, I think it’s a challenging song, but I’m learning how to play better rhythm by working on it.
True! And I don’t, because I can’t quite get the timing down… But it’s making me a better guitar player.
One of the best renditions of this Withers’ song I’ve heard here. NIce playing and vox. Love the pats on the guitar body, too. Little things like that can add a lot.
Nice, Benji! Really enjoyed it. Thanks for the song,
Chris
Thanks oldhead! Really appreciate that. I found the percussion really difficult to do as well as the hammer ons. Kind of like patting your head and rubbing your belly… Glad you enjoyed.
