My cover of “Vincent”

Lovely version, the singing really fit the playing really well. :smile:I never could play and sing at the same time.

That was terrific Mike. Ace fingerstyle and a lovely vocal. Well done, you’ve clearly put a lot of work into that one. You say it’s a simplified version but it sounded great.

I was lucky enough to see Don McLean live in concert last year. What a back catalogue of songs he has.

I’ve got a confession to make. I had NEVER EVER sang and played guitar at the same time until 2017. I’m 61 this year, and started playing guitar when I was 15, so 1977. I didn’t think I could do it. I thought my voice “wasn’t right” Never say never, it took a personal tragedy in my life for me to decide to try and do things I always wanted to do and one of them was play guitar and sing. Don’t wait, just start, try, keep going and you will get better.
Best regards

Thanks so much it’s one of my favourite songs and I finally plucked up the courage to give it a go. I’m glad you like it👍

Well, that was simply beautiful, you have a wonderful voice, and your playing was lovely.

Thanks Tony I appreciate you took time to listen!

Hi Michael, that was great
People often comment on how much harder it is to fingerpick and sing simultaneously and I tend to agree (although it’s the picking that I find the difficult part).
You pulled this off admirably. Nice song, competently performed.
Bravo! :sunglasses:
I went back and read your intro. Kudos for taking the plunge and deciding not to put off things you wanted to after the death of your brother. (I’m nearly 60 and lost my younger brother a couple of years ago). Would I be right if that was when you also treated yourself to that beauty of a guitar? All I can say is Wow! :open_mouth: Emerald guitars keep on popping up on my social media, (I guess because I’ve been ogling them so often ) I shared this link to the Virtuo on some other thread a while ago and would still be tempted to get one when I get good (and rich ) enough. You even have the fancy inlay. I’m emerald with envy!
You sound great through the Helicon. Do you use the Midi at all?
Thanks again for sharing

Thanks Brian! The guitar was a 60th birthday present to myself, this one just happened to be in their stock. Haven’t used the midi yet.
I like the TC Helicon play acoustic, it acts like an audio interface, so I just use the usb out into my phone and record video and audio at the same time with the Dolby on app
The Emeralds are expensive, but I don’t play any of my other guitars anymore so that says it all really. I’d like to do some electric guitar songs so let’s see how that goes.
Thanks for you kind words I appreciate it. :+1:

Cheers Alan I appreciate it!

So lovely, Mike. I just laid back, closed my eyes and enjoyed the beauty of the music. I remembered it was all about Vincent Van Gogh. You played with emotion; especially near the end where you slowed it down where you felt it should be slowed down. You felt it and so did I.

Thank you for your kind words! I’m having a bit of a confidence crisis at the moment, I was asked to play at a “super open mic” where I have to do a 40 minute set, and I’d love to play this but my hands shake like anything when I try finger style on stage! I will have o proactive a bit more.
Thanks again!

Wow Mike. well, your performance in general is above my pay grade to offer any constructive criticism however what I can say is I thoroughly enjoyed that. I have always loved this song in finger style and your sound was great. I thought you had a wicked vocal tone, :+1:
Interestingly I was looking at the Emerald web site recently but apart from Kfir Ochaion I had not seen these previously.
Another forum member had recently mentioned the TC Helicon and they sure make a difference.
Well done mate loved it :+1:

Hi Craig thanks! Yes the TC Helicon play acoustic is a pretty neat piece of kit. It basically acts like an audio interface but it has the tc helicon reverb and delays and stuff built in. The guitar processing is good on it too, very flexible eq and tone selection. I put my guitar through an HX Stomp which is a guitar pedal to give it the bit of processing and then had the controls flat for the guitar on the TC helicon.
Then you can take a usb cable straight out of the back of the TC Helicon into an iPhone or android phone and record it.
I film and record at the same time with an app called Dolby on, it’s free and it works great for recording yourself like this.
I’m really glad you liked it, I’ve practiced it a lot and really got comfortable playing it, I think it showed in the video. Not faultless by any means but pretty good.
Cheers

That was great. Absolutely beautiful. Guitar arrangement was lovely, as was the vocal, and the two together, just gorgeous to listen to. Thanks for this.

Thank you Claudia, I really appreciate the kind comments! The arrangement is really a simplified version of the one Justin did a tutorial on, I say arrangement but it’s really what falls under my fingers. So being familiar with it gives me the best chance to play it and sing at the same time if that makes sense. I’m really glad you liked it!

Another great performance!
