Here we go again!! I am going to attempt my first electric guitar build, a short scale bass for my wife Jen. The idea for the design is based on a Ibanez miKro Bass.
Good luck Mark!
Thanks!
its her christmas gift ?
good luck !
Ooh. Exciting.
Don’t chop a finger off before the open mic!!
No, I just needed an excuse to build another guitar.
She likes her current bass, but it is heavy. Besides, she wants an original “Kinsey” bass.
Not making a single cut until after tomorrow. ![]()
Yay! How cool!
Thanks for sharing ![]()
All the best. Waiting to see the finished one being played ![]()

Nice one, Mark, we just can not help ourselves, can we? My next build is a tele, for myself, and it is going to be a very expensive one, that is, after I finish this acoustic, if I ever get time cheers HEC
never heard of it ![]()
any link to show me what it is please ?
That looks like an amazing project ![]()
An ordinary piece of wood and some bits of metal turn into a beautiful instrument ![]()
That must feel a lot like magic ![]()
Your wife will be very happy!
Can’t wait to see (and hear) the finished result ![]()
Good luck with this awesome project ![]()
My last name is Kinsey so any guitar I make is a “Kinsey”.
I have built 4 acoustic guitars, but they have been for me. This is the first attempt to make one for Jen.
I did an intro video for this, maybe that will clear it up (maybe not).
Thank you Gunhild!
Nice!
I alwas love to read about your projects, Mark!
This year, I bought an Ibanez Mikro. Hard to beat for the price, but yes, I’d prefer an original Kinsey too! ![]()
The thing I didn’t think at before (because I didn’t know basses) though is that unlike with guitars the strings are thinner close to the tuners, so you’d (normally - or have some workaround) have to buy the strings for your scale length and for this one with the short scale length I couldn’t really find replacement strings if you wanted thinner or thicker. And the low E .105 gauge feels a bit wobbly on the Ibanez strings at this scale length (to me! )that you probably plan to buy too?
The situation is better for 76cm scale length (more choice among strings) as opposed to those 72,6cm. But then, maybe that .105 string would feel fine for your wife?
Interesting, I had not really thought about having a problem finding appropriate strings. I will have to do some looking around before I start cutting wood. Thanks!
I didnt’ know that ![]()
That is going to be one beautiful guitar! ![]()
I hope so!? ![]()
