My Long Suffering Wifes' new bass guitar

Well, I finished building and shaping the neck of the guitar. It involved taking the fretboard off and thinning it down a bit.

The body is now built and fitted (not connected) to the neck. Much easier than acoustic guitars, but I am enjoying the freedom of design.

Good going Mark.
It’s looking sweet.
I noticed the OM T-shirt under the overalls too.
Can’t wait to hear the bass at an OM in 2026.

Thanks! So am I.

Well, the stain and finish are on the guitar. Now to let it cure for 30 days.

Another fascinating video. The finish you’ve achieved on the front of this instrument looks wonderful. I’m in awe of your craftsmanship and equally so of your patience. Looking forward to seeing more.

Thanks Brian, not too much left to do. Waiting 30 days for the finish to cure will be the tough part.

It’s looking beautiful Mark. I love that deep red colour you got it to.
I found myself holding my breath for you watching this
Was that the sound of the ocean in the background at the start of the video?

I hold my breath a lot doing this work and sometimes test out creative curses. Some people pick up relaxing hobbies for retirement.

I wish! :joy: My furnace is in the garage/shop. That was the fan running.

 yes! I can imagine it would inspire some.
It would still be a really satisfying hobby though I reckon
Oh well, it sounded nice. It would be sweet though, wouldn’t it. I probably would have been a bit jealous :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

little bit nervous about you reusing an herbicide spray bottle for this, tbh (fwiw, I got a state pesticide applicator’s license many years ago and learned all about pesticide storage, handling empty containers, etc).

That finish is pretty cool.

Thanks. It’s been a water bottle for quite some time, so I think I am ok.

It’s such a pleasure to follow you through your build, Mark!
Looks awesome!

Uhm, well… I couldn’t find the fast-forward button somehow…

Thanks! Ah yes, patience. That quality that I have heard so much about, but have never quite attained for myself. Fortunately, I have the material to start building a Dreadnaught to keep me distracted. :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Did the shellac application change the base tint color at all? Man that color looks great. Well I know you were happy you didn’t have to sand it down and play with colors. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Edit, sorry, I have been sick typeing from prone on couch. my auto correct got away from me

It did not seem to change it at all. I was wondering about that, even though it was clear shellac, it was pretty old.

It looks awesome Mark. I like the mixture of the black and red. I can’t wait to see it when it’s fully finished.

Well, Jen’s bass is done. Here is the last video. It is very short as I lost a lot of it when my memory card died.

Wow it’s been quite a journey Mark and the finished bass looks terrific. I wish Jen many happy hours playing it.
Hopefully see it in an OM soon.
