My new chair arrived today

Hi Rick. Yes the hand wheel you can see in the pic allows the footrest to be moved up and down. There are levers that adjust the overall height, the angle of the backrest, the angle of the seat cushion, the seat cushion can be moved forward and back and the backrest can be moved up and down. There is even a pneumatic bulb that you can pump which inflates the lumbar support part.

I’m most impressed by the chair and at the moment I’m getting used to it as my guitar/arm/hands position has changed. (For the better!).

Hi Ross, I’ll put the link below. However it was a clearance sale and there does not appear to be any left. My wife found it as she has been searching online on my behalf for ages (wife seal of approval @Socio :smile:).
I got the chair for £127 including delivery. The pre-sale price was outrageous (almost £500) and I certainly wouldn’t have bought it at that price.

I think the reason it was on sale is it’s a higher than normal chair. It’s designed I think for use with a high desk, perhaps for a draftsman or similar. I’m tall and I’ve got the seat at it’s lowest level.

It is terrific quality (as well it might be at that original price). I’ve looked at many others at around the £100 mark and they’ve all been flimsy and a bit shoogly (Scottish word for wobbly :smiley:).

Ah man I wish I had one of those!

Hope you have many hours of fun sitting on that chair Gordon!

What a shame! That sale price is within my meagre budget and it sounds like the chair would have been spot on. As well as playing guitar I would also have used it for art… at a high desk, just as you describe. Oh well, nevermind!

@Goffik
Ross there are some other suggestions here.
Chairs for playing guitar

Thanks mate, I’ll take a look but my budget is pretty small. I have two stools already but am after a good replacement for my office chair. The one I have couldn’t have been more than ~£120 full price (it was given to me, so not sure) so was never great to begin with. Years later it is now most definitely… what was your word… shoogly. :grin:

That’s the one thing I’ve been looking for. The foot rest is always to low for me.

I could maybe do with a new chair. 2.5 years of working from home and my armless office chair is not feeling as solid as it was.
Looks a good 'un Gordon.
What with you and Toby I am getting chair envy.

Nice chair…my practice studio is also my home office so I bought a keyboard bench to sit on when playing. I didn’t want another big chair besides my work chair. It’s nice because I can put the bench close to my computer desk. I put one monitor on a swing arm so I can pull it out and look at tabs or use Tux Guitar or an online drum machine as I practice.

Good réflexion. Thanks for sharing.

How’s the rail position for your foot.?

R.

@Libitina
The footrest rail is height adjustable as is the overall seat height, so the whole thing is very adaptable.

I’d like to offer an alternative idea for other people looking for something to sit on while playing. I use this stool that I got when I started working from home along with a sit-stand desk. The stool varies in height from very low, being easily able to get both feet down to full height when your legs either dangle or you can stand sort sat against the edge for a little support. The other key point is that it is deliberately unstable, in that it rocks by up to 10 degrees in any direction so you have to use a little bit of core stability with it.
With regards to posture I would argue that while some seats are inherently bad, there’s no chair in the world that can make you sit with good posture, it’s always possible to slouch. It requires conscious effort over time to fix bad posture (and it’s why I bought a sit-stand desk).

This stool is quite interesting…can you share the manufacturer/model? Thanks!

It was from an office supplier in the UK called GoStand who specialise in standing desks. They aren’t cheap. I took a punt on them as I ran out of patience waiting for Ikea to get stock of the desk I wanted. The desk is solid, with metal inserts in the screw holes so it can be dismantled and re-assembled if required (whereas a lot of flat pack furniture is designed to be assembled once). I’ve had the stool for 2 years now, use it every day, it’s still as good as new and I feel it encourages good posture more than any chair I’ve ever tried although I’m sure it’s still possible to slouch on!

Thanks! I acquired a standing desk during Covid and use it frequently for guitar practice. I also have a good, adjustable office chair, but it has arms!
I’ve asked GoStand about shipping to the U.S. I’m afraid it might cost as much as the stool, Even if I can’t get this exact one, you’ve given me good info regarding what to look for and what might be available.

Nice chair but what’s all that stuff at the end of your post?

The difficult bit might be the return policy if you don’t like it but hopefully that won’t be needed if you do go ahead with it
