Natalie Merchant, "Carnival", Intro

This is the intro to Natalie Merchant’s “Carnival”. This was originally played by Jen Turner, who’s an amazing guitar player.

This is a bit of a milestone for me – it’s one of the songs that got me started with Justin Guitar almost 2 years ago. I really wanted to learn to play this intro.

I took it on as a transcribing challenge, and learned it by ear. Hope you guys like it!

Thanks for your time!

Andrey, great job on the transcription. It is also one of my favorite guitar parts of all time. Jen Turner was so young when she played on this album …. she’s done some interesting stuff since, but went completely different direction than I would have expected.

Big favor ask :-)! Can you share your tab? I learned this years ago and lost my own, and really want to get this one back under my fingers.

Thanks Man!

I’m sorry. I would, but I don’t have one to upload. I started doing the basic transcription on paper, but then couldn’t figure out how to notate all the little nuanced things that made the piece what it is, so I just learned it by ear.

Thay was cool. Big fan of hers. 10,000 maniacs did one of the best unplugged performances imo. Great job doing the transcription and play through. :call_me_hand:t2:
