Near end of course: Now what?

Hello everyone, i find myself i almost the end of Justins course ,and i started asking myself the question. Now what, whats next?? Without sounding too melodramatic, i was wondering if there is more courses to come, more specialized ones, like if my focus is rock and metal,is there any guide and sequence i should tackle next ?

Thanks for suggestions.

Emil, just to be clear are you referring to completing the courses on the app or the website? As far as I understand the app covers Grades 1-3 whereas the website goes way beyond that and includes premium courses which you can purchase.

Hello Chefe,

Bit confused here myself.
Your intro post says you took up guitar at the start of this year, after a 20 year break, and found Justins website.
Now you are ‘finished’ , and looking for more courses?

Yes im refering to the app classes.

Sclay yes thats exactly what happened here

All makes sense. So as per my initial post the app only covers beginner grades 1 to 3. For the grades beyond that and the premium courses you will have to refer to the website. So best to move onto the website for the course lessons and song lessons. The app is really just a guitarioke.

There’s enough additional content, lots of it free, on the web site to keep you occupied for a very long time. Fear not.

Thats bit disappointing really, especialy to see which direction yo go next i dont see any guidance considering that the app lessons were not free

I never even used the app. I will admit using the web site only with my phone during the first year I played. I know that doesn’t count as an app.

Honestly I feel the web site content lessons are much better. If you liked 1-3 you will love 4 and 5. :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

I cant tell you much beyond those :innocent: and the theory class which is really good also.

You’ll find an overview of all lessons in the website on https://www.justinguitar.com/guitar-lessons. You’ve done grades 1, 2 and 3, so the logical point to continue is grade 4.

Now use the website …

Only in grade 4 there will be years of fun, especially if you want to become a specialist in a style, you can try something here, then you can also do extra courses (a number of cheap and 1 somewhat more expensive BLIM blues) and then there are 772 songs to learn…

Have fun :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Came here to say this

JustinGuitar.com started out as a website. The app is only a tip of the iceberg

There is a lot to work on technique etc.

Have you checked the massive song lesson library?

Hello @Chefe

The App is amazing - thanks for subscribing (which supports Justin) and for making such good use of it.

Go the main JustinGuitar website Dashboard. https://www.justinguitar.com Have you created an account there too? Click on Courses right of the logo.

If you click on Lesson Map in the middle of the last three, it gives a comprehensive guide to each stage and the contents you will find within. There is far too much to screenshot - take a look.

ps
I notice too that you say you restarted in January and have already discovered weaknesss in your playing, plus have a habot of jumping from topic to topic instead of really learning.
Might I humbly suggest you do not proceeed beyond Grade 3 yet. Learning, practicing and consolidating the Grades 1-3 content will take many people one to two years.

I read that you like rock music like me.

Your 1 year Grade 1-3 consolidation can be a project like learning and performing (with a video) all the first 15 songs in the JG rock songbook. It’s something really motivating and challenging.

See my post for inspiration, and there are a few other users who have their own post .
Math07 JG Rock Songbook Project (11 out of 15) - 1 NEW song

After this rock consolidation, you’ll have many years of fun ahead on the website (grade 4, and specially blues immersion which is the best course on the website - even if you are not the biggest blues fan).

Hi, my suggestion is to start over with the website beginner course (I have done that twice), but focus on the song lessons, in addition to consolidating your fundamental playing techniques. Try to click on and view all the song lessons thar are listed for each module on the website. Many of the songs are different than suggested by the app. The website song lessons usually include more advanced strumming techniques that I find enjoyable.

When you get to grade 3 you can read some the comments in the community where others have discussed your same problem. Also you can get a lot of good ideas by look at others learning logs. Justin is trying to teach how to plan your own learning in grade 3 so it is a good time to plan out your path in grade 4 and higher. @math07 also has a good suggestion. Have fun playing new songs.

@Chefe is fairly new to JustinGuitar and the Community and he is asking for guidance, not snarky remarks and judgement. Also he is a subscriber to the App so is already financially committed and supporting JustinGuitar through that means.

Please can everyone be on topic and helpful in an encouraging manner.
Thanks

Thank you @Richard_close2u,i was honestly getting frustrated how people can just take simple ask for guidance and strech out of proportions. And yes i dont mind paying and spending money on lessons and courses.Im glad to see that you keep tabs on the content, but its unfortunate that adults have to be policed .
Thank yiu again.

Hey Emil

The web site is very large and it is easy to get overwelmed with the content that is offered. There is a ton that you can enjoy that will challenge you for a while regardless of your incoming level.

Take a look at the first few sections of the Practical Music Theory course. The first 2 or 3 grades are offered for free and there is a fair amount to sink your teeth into. Printable workbooks with unit exams. This has been very helpful to me just bringing things togeather. I wish I had srarted this earlier.

The other thing I would suggest attending some of the events in the live Club section. They given live by the on-staff instructors each month and they are fantastic. Also almost all have been recorded and are avalible to be watched on video in the plaground section in the club Archives. I have learned a great deal from them. I highly recommend these.

These are all things on top of the regular lessons after grade 3 (1-3 are there as well but you said you finished them.) It may be worth taking a look at grade 3 on the web site. Its covers a ton. Probably one of my favorite grades so far. There are many people who love and enjoy the app functions for play along while using the website more advanced lessons. You sound right on tract. Keep up the good work. Good luck Emil
