New older beginner

Hi everyone. I’m about 7 weeks into my guitar journey and maybe 5 weeks into Justin’s guitar program. I’ve gone from, "this is impossible, what was i thinking? " to "wow, i think i can actually do this! " i practice daily for about 45 minutes. Really excited to actually be able to play some songs!

Welcome to JG Daniel, keep it up, you will get lots of wow moments, and a few why can’t I do this, but with perseverance it will get easier. Lots of friendly people here to get advice or help if you need it.

Have fun! :guitar: :sign_of_the_horns:

Welcome! I’m another older beginner. At 62, I bought my guitar in 2020 during Covid. I’m now up to 3 guitars and thinking about upgrading my acoustic. This year I started playing with others as well as a public gig twice a month. It’s a fun journey, albeit a frustrating on at times!

Hello Daniel & Welcome!!!
There’s quite a few of us “Old Dogs” here learning to howl!!! Justin Guitar is the best thing I’ve found to help an “Endless Beginner” like myself actually improve & play songs! Sticking to Justin’s Method & practicing regularly will have a budding guitarist like you go from Beginner to Intermediate!!!
Good luck!!!

Hi! Thanks for the encouragement! Have you been practicing daily? You’ve got 6 years under your belt now! It’s funny, i started taking my singing seriously in 2020, I’ve been taking lessons the whole time! I’ve got my first paying gig coming up in 2 weeks as the front man for soulful, blues rock band! We did a benefit back in August and it got us 3 bookings for this year! I’m hoping to be able to strum some rhythms at some point. It seems i have a long way to go. My chord changes are really messy but I’m doing over 30/ minute.

I’m planning to just stay the course! I think I’ll be retiring this year so, I’ll be able to spend more time on both my singing and musicianship!

Hi there! Welcome to the community, enjoy your guitar journey! I am curious how your background in vocals helps with earning the guitar.

Hey, that’s awesome. I often comment about what a great reward one gets from learning the guitar and the cool bit is that reward, as you are finding out, is more accessible / easier than one thinks. Look forward to hearing more from you.

Hi thanks! Well, I do have some understanding of basic theory so that helps. Mostly, it gives me a more realistic view of the process. Learning to sing properly isn’t much different than learning anninstrument. There are scales, riffs, runs, improvisation, phrasing, etc. The musicality of it is very similar once the mechanics are developed.

Thanks Tony! I do know it’s about consistency and focused practice. You gotta work on the right stuff! I’m not going it alone, I have Justin, you guys, and my voice coach is also a guitar teacher.

Even just being able to play a couple of open chords should make your singing/music making so much more enjoyable. It’s so much fun!
On a completely different note, I looked up Providence, RI on the map to see exactly where it was, and was tickled to see that it’s right beside Cranston, one of my favourite songs
