Hi folks,
I dropped (knocked over, actually) my Tercer round-top. It slid over and landed on carpet but thumped the headstock pretty loudly.
Now I have a buzz when I pick the four outside strings. Low E buzz is most prominent. Looking closely, it appears the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd frets are now VERY close to the strings. I think the nut might be twisted… Is this a simple fix, just an adjustment of the nut, or am I likely to need a luthier to repair it?
Pic shows low E side of the nut, with a small gap…
Hi Chip, I’m the farthest thing from a luthier, but it looks to me from your photo that there is a fracture in the headstock. I would take it to a luthier for a diagnosis. Before I saw the possible crack, I was going to suggest just changing the strings - that would give you an opportunity to re-set the nut. But if that is indeed a fracture, that’s not going to solve your problem and indeed may make it worse.
Hi Chip I would be very careful with that my friend, and stop playing her until she is checked out, looking at the picture it may only be the fret board lifting and that is not such a big deal but get it checked cheers Hec
Well, the good news is that the fretboard isn’t lifting up. My new Luthier is sure that the new nut and setup will take care of everything. I am so relieved! I will let you know when she comes home!
The bad news is he is really busy right now so it might be 10 days or 2 weeks. :-((
