New Uke day

Just found this in my local charity shop looking on the Justin web site it appears to be a soprano Ukelele made by Puretone its in very good condition just the tiniest bit of wear are Puretone any good do any of you have a Uke what are they like to play its looks a fun thing I have managed to tune it and play some basic chords (no fret inlays on this one promise) cost £25.00 thought it would add a different sound bought it on a whim really

Uke’s are great fun, but I regard them as ‘accessories’
You have to sing while playing if you are solo or otherwise play with others.

Needs inlays

Happy NUD John! I have a uke that was gifted to me, but I haven’t done much with it.

Ha Ha

Not so sure it was a good buy John, but hey, the money went to charity. :+1:

And he doesn’t have to wait 120 working days to have fun playing it

There are four ukuleles in my instrument collection, because that’s how things go around here. I got the first one (carbon fiber) for boat use, because I wanted to work on my calluses, and a carbon fiber soprano uke was cheaper and more portable than a boatproof guitar. Naturally, things progressed from there…

I’ve never heard of Pure Tone before today, but if you have fun with it, well, why not?

I love ukes! They are great fun
I haven’t heard of Pure Tone either though, don’t know :woman_shrugging:
Hope you have a lot of fun with it anyway, John  :musical_notes:

Hi John,
Happy NUD  :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

I wish you a lot of fun with it … :grinning_face_with_big_eyes:

I have 2 uke’s myself and I have been learning chords and playing songs for uh …2 whole days :see_no_evil_monkey:…and also a while ago.
I should pick it up more, but the grown-up guitar always wins the roll call vote here :grimacing:

Greetings

well this is a sort of side project and it may help my finger dexterity and improve my guitar playing I have two songs lined up to learn, you are my sunshine and one from the 1920s Charleston era called five foot two I remember my dad bashing this out on the piano and mum singing and doing a little dance for us kids

Hi John, you inspired me to open my case and get my ukulele out. They are brilliant. Just a suggestion, try looking at Over the Rainbow by Israel Kamakawiwo’ole. You get two songs same chords, or Pearly Shells with Uke Mullum, great fun, John, cheers HEC

I believe it is every ukulele owner’s duty to learn Amanda Palmer’s fabulous Ukulele Anthem :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:
Here’s my version, name-checking some of the old forumites at the end

So there’s already 6 ukuleles in this house. And my wife just ordered 2 new KLOS ukes last night - a tenor and a concert with pickups.

Apparently for the pickups (though I would bet that the main reason is that she just wanted them). She’s been doing a lot of open mic performances lately and has been using a Myers clip-on pickup. It works (and sounds pretty fantastic, actually), but the clip marked up the soundboard on her Koa concert uke. And she won’t put that clip-on pickup anywhere near her one-of-a-kind maple tenor.

I guess I’m doing something wrong (I only have 4 guitars - and only 2 of those I play regularly).

I’ve been bouncing around the idea of building my own electric guitar (building the body but using an existing bolt-on neck) so I guess I have tacit approval to buy what I need for that project. :-p

Haha! But I found too that ukes accumulate faster than guitars, maybe because of the lower price, or maybe size, or maybe cuteness factor?
But for a pickup, I think I would also add it on my own if I wanted one.

Hey, me too, I want to build an electric guitar. But for a different reason. I like wider necks which electrics very rarely have. Have some half-ready neck lying here and like you, I plan to build a body. And I really want to make it more lightweight than most electrics - I find my Les Paul copy way too heavy for example!
I hope you’ll share some experience and images once you start!
