Newbie question re hard-shell cases for lefty guitars

Good day all,

I have a basic question about hard shell guitar cases, are they oriented to left and right handed guitars? I’m looking a buying a budget version Les Paul left handed guitar. I want to buy a hard case that will fit it.

A first I assumed that any case designed to fit a Les Paul style guitar should be fine. But then I started second guessing due to its shape if lefty vs righty ordination matters?

Thanks,
Janice

Hi Janice, I am not sure but somebody will Know, I am guessing maybe Leiviene one of the moderators may be able to answer that question anyway good luck cheers Hec nice to meet you

Hi Janice,
Here I have found one for left and right-handed … with others I also only came across right or left … so indeed pay attention … maybe this one can be of some use to you?

I have no idea whether this exact one is right for you…it’s just an idea that you should indeed pay attention. I didn’t look for it for very long, so don’t rely on me blindly

maybe someone else will see the catch… but this should just fit, right? Make sure that whatever you order has a return guarantee, so you can try it on without any problem

Greetings,Rogier

A true Les Paul Case isn’t symmetrical so would come in Left and Right hand.
There may be aftermarket cases that are symmetrical so make sure you get a case that states it will fit a left handed LS

You might want to check out a case like this. Looks like it will fir both left and right hand and SG. They are a bit pricey

I can’t speak to electric guitars/Les Pauls, but my Taylor acoustic has a cutaway, and the case is the same as for a righty, i.e. the case does not conform to the cutaway, it’s just open space.
But I’m guessing the answer, frustratingly, is “it depends” :joy:

Both Thomann and Sweatwater have a “certified to fit” list of cases neat the bottom of the page for the relevant guitars. It won’t be a comprehensive list but it will give you some leads.

About once or twice a week I start contemplating if my decision of playing right handed was correct. As a lefty, its frustrating that I again started playing right handed bacause thats what I bought my right handed kid who left it sitting in the corner after leaving for school. That exactly how it all started way back when that I was able to grab a hold of a guitar for my brief month stint of guitar play when I was a teenager. Somehow after that and the following 25 years, movies like Bill and Ted excelent adventure and everything else just reinforce that un knowing subconscious right handed guitar push.

These type of threads make me feel like I really need to go find a left handed guitar and give it a real shot. Screw the detractors. Lefties will take over and rule the world someday. We will fix the sissors, the can openers and the spiral notebooks, the things that most people dont even realize are totally broken and also the guitar cases.

Just saying
