NGD: Godin 5th Avenue P-90 Kingpin II - now with pictures

@Ontime, @HappyCat, @LievenDV, @Coda,

I think each of you commented on how you’d like to hear some of this. I have some veryt short things from my experiments yesterday and a bit of trolling you.

I continue to fight the stiffness of these strings. You’ll hear timing glitches and strings not held down hard enough that I don’t tend to have with the 9s I am used to!

First up, this is certainly not what I bought this for!

Next, a bit more what I wanted? no… not really.

Some noodling into a shuffle:

The acoustic sound with blues. This is my first time trying acoustic and the recording sound is not so awesome, but should give the idea of the sound in the room:

Electric intro of a tune from 1194:

I have a lot of getting used to this and plenty of things I found to satisfy goofing around with sounds. I just need to do it when my wife is out of the room! It needs to be loud to overcome the acoustic sound. I still need to locate the resonant points and how to avoid the feedback. Good string muting seems to be a good idea here!

There was one I wanted to record, but I just couldn’t perform it. Strings too stiff. will try another time with 10s.

now you have to play the whole song XD

Ah great; looks like you have a versatile guitar in your hands. Tones have body yet don’t lack definition. Nice

I think a lot of that is the amp and EQ setup. As long as the pickups don’t leave anything out, the rest is up to the signal chain after that. I went through a lot of very specific filtering measurements last weekend. I have a good idea now of how to set up an EQ based on what I want to hear.

I was surprised that I could get some heavy sounds out of this. I was laughing a bit at the AC/DC when I first played it.

Good job on the EQ ing then

I can do heavy stuff on -every- guitar so that’s no surprise to me!

Great sound samples. The most important thing in evaluating any new gear is that YOU should like the sound. Actually, nothing else matters…
I like the way it sounds acoustically. Certainly loud enough for practice purposes.
Thanks for sharing!

Man, That’s a sweet sounding guitar Michael.
Your playing does it justice too. Very nice clips ya made for us.
Seems a most versatile guitar too. Your getting a real wide variety of tones for sure.

It seems I was on the right track wanting one of them Godin’s. You just beat me to it… A great choice of guitars imho.

Thanks for sharing your tone clips.
Like I say, it just makes me want one more. I think I’ll put it back on the list of for sure go take a look one if I ever see one around here again.

May you and your new guitar have many years of fun together… What a looker, and better yet, it sounds GREAT!

Jam on!

I agree! I only use esthetics a little in purchase selection, but I have been watching this for over a year.
About 3-4 weeks ago, the price at Sweetwater dropped from 915 to 729. No idea why. If you are serious about it, I don’t know if the price will go up again or not.

That sounds great. Impressed with the acoustic sound too.
