Nitsuj Module 11 - Practice 3

In other fingerstyle discussions I’ve seen/read, it is emphasized that the thumb should be “in front of” (i.e. closer to the neck) than the other fingers. In these practice videos (both the acoustic and electric) it seems like Justin’s thumb is more “inside” his fingers.

Is the thumb position just not as important as others want to make it, or is this just something Nitsuj needs to work on ;-)? Thanks!!!

Hi @Fetch
That is super observant of you.

Here is Nitsuj’s thumb position just after striking the open D string of a D chord in this Module 11 Practice 3 video.

He is definitely inside on the former and outside on the latter.
You may be right - Nitsuj needs some technique correction!

Thanks for the feedback Richard. I certainly didn’t mean to criticize Nitsuj. I just wanted to make sure I’m paying attention to the “right” things. I can get a little too focused on details sometimes so I just wanted to make sure I understood the ideal.

Thanks for all of your support.

He would be the first one to gratefully accept critique I’m sure.
