My first post here.
I retired and am getting back to guitar.
Started the beginner lessons to give it a go from the start.
When I got to Beginner 3 Module 17 I said, “Hey, that is so cool, but there is no way in **** that I’ll ever be able to strum and pick individual strings”.
Well, been going at it with consistency and focus; starting to get some results; a little reverb never hurts either!
Love the opportunity to post my progress.
Thanks for watching; and keep practicing; we can do this!
Nicely done! I’ve been working on this exercise this week, too, and have been finding it a challenge. I can play individual strings while strumming, no problem! But playing the right ones consistently? Oof. ![]()
Hi Carl ,
First post and with a first video … you happy and a nice guitar …nice sound
Well that is a lot to like

Welcome here and I wish you a lot of more fun,
Greetings,Rogier
Edit : If individual picking notes and strings and rhythm guitar at the same time keeps you awake with pleasure, this course might also be for you…I loved (and still love) it and even though Justin is there with an acoustic guitar, it is also perfect with an electric guitar… ![]()
Welcome to our Community Carl! Have a look around and consider making an introduction in the Introduce yourself section, it’s not mandatory though.
Your recording: short and very sweet… Thanks for sharing your progress with us!
Very nice. Thats such a great technique too. So useful. I have noticed so many bands do this in the backgrounds of the songs. It really steps up the sound.
For practice I play the regular chords on my looper, and then play on top of my loop. It sounds killer usually.
This sounds so cheese but I often pretend like I am Stone Gossard or Mike Mcreedy from Pearl Jam when I do this technique because they do cool complicated chord changes and they actually do it a lot of these on their songs. ![]()
Thanks. Finger strumming certainly is my nemesis! I need to devote more time to that technique.
Thanks. I’ll check out the intro area.
Thanks. I’ve got to upgrade my “looper” tech skills; doesn’t sound “cheesy” at all; great idea.
I forgot to mention thats a sweet guitar. Love a nice Gretsch or look a like.
Yea. Its an Electromatic 5129; the bottom end of the electromatic line and really reasonable for the look, sound and quality.
