In 2020 I lost my beloved 1997 Jaguar XJ6 in a fire. I replaced it with a Kia Niro PHEV (plug-in hybrid) and installed an EV2 charger in my garage.
Really impressed with the Niro. It has a 30 mile range on electric, which is enough to get to town and back. It charges back up in about 2 hours. For longer trips we put it in HEV mode. When using the ICE we average around 50mpg. Close in comfort to the Jag and much less expensive to maintain. In almost five years it has needed nothing more than a couple oil changes and tire rotation.
Most important thing about the Niro is the ample cargo space. I can fit three guitars and two amps in it.

Yikes that was painful I bet. (I have a 2002 xkr) . On the hunt for a used Toyota Rav hybrid which falls under the 40k

Bear it in mind that the 40k applies to the original price not the price you buy it for - the higher rate is in force until it’s over 6 years old.

Going back into the 80s I had a 4.2 straight 6 XJ6 Jag i think it was a 1972 reg you could wrap it into any tight corner and it would`nt move just like driving a sports car it had twin fuel tanks one in each rear wing ,replaced it with an MGBGT
noisy & bumpy now have a 60 plate insignia

if I wanted an EV pickup truck, there are MUCH better alternatives. The cybertruck is pretty objectively a bad truck. there are a lot of truck things it fails spectacularly to do. I think it’s also a great example of the fact that Tesla quality is declining.

Then there are the other issues coughcough.

I know a couple people who have a hybrid F150 that has the powerpack on it. That’s damn useful. I went out with one of those folks back in October after my city’s water system had been destroyed by flooding. We were volunteering with a group that was hauling water to places it was needed. Most of those places lacked power at the time, too. Also very spotty cell service. We were able to plug an electric water pump into that truck and transfer water from the containers we were hauling (we had 4x 250gal bulk tanks between our two vehicles) into containers that had been staged in various places. The F150 is just way bigger than I need. The first manufacturer to put a hybrid midsize on the market (with a similar powerpack sort of capability) will have my attention.

I even have my eye on the compacts coming back on the market, but I don’t like the way they tend to be configured. Too much passenger space and not enough utility space.

Sounds like a Toyota might be an idea, they’re pretty good and reliable.

The Tacoma i-FORCE MAX has a 2,400W power supply.

Yeah, the hybrid Tacoma is coming. the hybrid Ranger is also coming (I currently have a 2019 Ranger I mostly like). With there being options, I’ll have the ability to evaluate them and I like that.

There are things I like and dislike about both Ford and Toyota at this point (there’s one of each currently in the driveway, so I feel like I have a pretty thorough evaluation).

I don’t have anywhere to charge an EV, so I have a Toyota Auris (now Corolla) hybrid estate (station wagon in US). Best car I’ve ever had by far. 10 year warranty too if you get it serviced once a year at a Toyota dealer and no charge for labour on services for the first 6 years - only parts. Cant go wrong.

I have a new hybrid Corolla sedan, and I fully agree with this. If I had to change, I would consider the Corolla again and possibly the Camry.

Nice choice with those, Toyota have always been the best Hybrids but there are some very good ones from other brands that are pretty good. I really don’t like the new Prius, I think the designers may have been on the wildwood weed during the design phase :face_with_hand_over_mouth:. The Auris / Corolla is a much more aesthetically appealing design! The Mild hybrids are a waste of space to me, I just can’t see a good reason for their existence other than a marginal tax benefit.
