Not Really Wired That Way

Hey everyone,

The last 6 months have been a pretty busy but in a very good way with the BLIM course. Hence, I’ve not been active on the AVoYP section of the community.

This is my latest original that I have recorded that I would like to share with the community. It’s a one take recording (I’ve been wanting to get this one done so I can get it out of my head and move onto something new), well two I recorded the acoustic guitar and vocals separately. Both the guitar and the vocals have been recorded through my Boss VE-8.

I was going to add some drums but decided I didn’t want to get myself into bother for not recording a real drum track. Therefore, no virtual instruments have been used in the recording :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Likewise, I didn’t want to cross the line using AI generated art for an accompanying video for your entertainment. So you will have to make do with my new Avatar (although AI did help with the design :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:).

All AI jokes aside I hope you enjoy this latest offering and it brings some light entertainment to your day.

Lyrics

Not Really Wired That Way

Verse 1:

We weren’t born with a spoon in our mouths
No trust funds, no future mapped out
We were never good at school
No, No, No, we never followed the rules

We pushed all the boundaries
Crossed the line from time to time
We were the ones to set the world on fire
Burn, Burn, Burn, Higher and Higher

Chorus:

Cause we don’t care what other’s think
We’re not really wired that way
Not really wired that way
we don’t care what other’s say
We’re not really wired that way
Not really wired that way

Verse 2:

We weren’t raised to follow the crowds
Bask in the shadows, never stand out
We were never self conscious
No No No we couldn’t care less

We were young and we were bold
We didn’t care what we were told
We were the ones to set the world on fire
Burn, Burn, Burn, Higher and Higher

Chorus:

Cause we don’t care what other’s think
We’re not really wired that way
Not really wired that way
we don’t care what other’s say
We’re not really wired that way
Not really wired that way

Bridge:

No conformity
We’ll be who we want to be
Extraordinary
Just you wait and see

No illusions
There’ll be no confusion
What you see
Is what you get

Cause we don’t care
No we don’t care
No we don’t care
No we don’t care
We don’t care
No we don’t care
We don’t care…

Chorus:

No we don’t care what other’s think
We’re not really wired that way
Not really wired that way
we don’t care what other’s say
We’re not really wired that way
Not really wired that way

I like the guitar sound, and, of course, your singing is great. A fine song, all in all, thanks for sharing :+1:.

I really enjoyed this track! Have no constructive criticism to add, but as always, I really enjoy creative pursuits of everyone on here, so thank you for sharing!

Nice original James, there is a slight Blues undertone to my ears. Guess that’s the “Blim Effect”.

Same here, as someone who never did anything similar, I am always impressed with originals.

@Socio
James, really great song, well done!

Ah, we’ve missed you here James, and to re-enter the AVOYP arena with another original is a classy move :sunglasses:
Whatever they’ve been doing with you over there seems to be paying dividends.
Bravo!
A catchy tune, well-played and sung, complete with slightly rebellious lyrics…
But what’s this? No trendy black & white video or even a downloaded, if not conjured up rhythm section? :open_mouth:
It’s not quite the We pushed all the boundaries / Crossed the line / we don’t care what other’s think, innit? :face_with_monocle:

Bravo, James. A cool original. Loved that guitar sound.

Given it was a two track recording, I would have been inclined to up the level of the vocal a few dB and maybe experiment with doubling the guitar track and applying the Haas Effect for some extra width and body.

But those are just comments based on my taste and preference, not suggesting there was something ‘wrong’.

Personally I don’t see that as crossing any lines here. I know there are as many opinions as people commenting on AI, and some are would be quite strongly held. But all that aside, if you felt inclined to do so then I think you should. Of course, if not inclined that is also fine.

Similarly the use of virtual instruments when it serves your song.

As I say that is my personal opinion, not a JustinGuitar policy statement

Hi James…
I thought it was a great song to listen to :sunglasses:    :man_bowing:… For me it’s the best sounding of them all you did … unfortunately a video of yourself (singing or just with guitar) is more than half the fun… but the vocals and guitar are your best work here so for once i forgive you

Greetings

Thank you all for taking the time to listen and comment on my latest song. I’m pleased to hear that you all enjoyed it.

That may have been the inclusion of some dominant 7th chords

There is still time to push the boundaries when I come back to it once my guitar skills have improved as I would like to add some harmonies for example in the chorus etc. Maybe use AI to give it the feel that there are multiple people singing the chorus lines.

Go for it Hec, this is a very supportive and encouraging platform to share.

I may very well do so in the near future

Interesting feedback, my friend, as usual. I actually did double track the guitar track but may have not spaced them out enough. I think I may have only had them 40% left and right. Agree with you on pushing the vocals up a notch.

Thank you, Rogier. I’m glad that my guitar playing came across well as I wanted to showcase how I’ve reached the stage in my learning of taking open chord shapes and spicing it up with embellishments to give it a bit more flavour and texture.

That is a great song, James, I love it. Guitar, lyrics, they’re perfect. I think BLIM must have impacted your overall musicianship, to come up with this gem of an original.

Good stuff James. Loved the rebellious lyric. I too am disappointed you didn’t use some AI. Not contentious at all and surely there’s no one on this forum who would object to that!
Seriously, a really clever composition, well played and well sung. Hats off to you for producing an original my friend.

Good one, James. Hmmm, so a bit of a rebel in your younger days! I’t seems you’ve turned out all right now! Catchy tune and well done.

Enjoyed it very much, James! I agree with DavidP that the vocals could have been a bit louder in your mix but overall a good listen!

Tod

P.S. I really like your new Avatar!!! Super Bluesy!!!

Thank you all for taking the time to listen to my latest original and for the lovely comments. I’m really pleased to read that you enjoyed the song.

Yeah, I think BLIM really had a positive impact on both my playing and my confidence. I’m looking forward now to starting my new “Blues and Beyond” topic as I share my progress as I consolidate and building on everything that I have learned with my friends in the community.

I’m just trying to keep my nose clean after being accused of being in a non-inclusive cult  jokes aside I’m glad you enjoyed the rebellious lyrics and composition as I don’t know when another song will come to me to please you my good friend.

Haha let’s just say I was no more of a handful than any other teenager and I was raised well  glad you enjoyed it Pam. Are you working on any new songs or collaborations?

Pleased to hear that you like my new Avatar, Todd, as it’s become my branding as @sairfingers suggested that I should go into business in the guitar themed clothing sector
