That’s a nice one. Quite promising, to say the least. I imagine when its final version’s ready it’ll sound amazing. And, indeed, there’s something of The Beatles style to it.

Thanks Coda. I need a few more verse lines i think and a bridge or middle 8th to break it up. Kind of a bit like ‘imagine’

Wanted to do it about the universe and the mystery and wonder.

You can choose that nothing is a miracle or everything. But nothing is a strange concept. Lots of things that were nothing can spring into something.

Very nice start Ali!

Your vocal definitely has a John Lennon type quality to it. I really like it as I’m a big Beatles fan.

I would agree with your self-assessment that it could use a bridge or something to break it up a bit. Maybe a change of strumming pattern during parts you’d like to emphasize? Also, it could just be me, but the lyrics were a bit hard to make out in the mix. I could definitely hear them, but they were a bit hard to understand. I’d love if you posted the lyrics so we can fully appreciate what you wrote!

Overall, good job and I’ll be looking forward to hearing the finished version :+1:

Thanks Jenndye,

I haven’t finished the lyrics yet abd they need tweaking a bit. Il send them later when I finish the recording in a couple of weeks.

Yes I’m a fan of Beatles too. Used to love them when I was a kid.

Yea maybe a strumming pattern change. Good idea. And maybe different chords.

How do you find out what key you’re in?

It’s got G, D, C ASUs4, f and a few passing notes and slightly different chords based on these patterns. Guess that is key of c or a minor. I’m catching up on the technicals of music.

This can be a tricky question when you first start out writing your own music- at least it was for me! When I first ventured into songwriting, I didn’t think too much about the key. I definitely followed Justin’s “if it sounds good, it is good” philosophy. I quickly realized that having a solid music theory foundation would only help me make better choices- and hopefully better music

I believe Justin has a lesson or two on chords in the key as part of the beginners course. If you haven’t seen them yet, I would suggest starting there. I subscribed to his Practical Music Theory course as well, which goes into a lot more detail. PMT is a paid course beyond the first few lessons, but you may want to check out the free modules if you are considering doing it so you can get a feel for it. It was definitely worth the cost for me!

As far as your song, it looks like you may be in the key of G major, with the Asus4 being a substitute for the Am chord. I could be wrong, but that’s what it looks like to me. You can also potentially get an idea of what key you are in by figuring out what chord feels like “home”. Meaning, what chord do your tension notes want to resolve to?

Hopefully this helps some!

Cool song. And I like the guitar effects, there must have had some vocal effects as well.

Oh yeah, tight name. Last time I was in Hawaii, there might have been a dude in Honolulu with that name looking for his ID. :joy:

Some promise and potential here Ali.
If you’re wanting a few more pointers…
Be careful with your tempo, you speed up a little after a few cycles of the progression, notably around 40 seconds, then again after about 60 seconds. Maybe you want it faster and pushed it there subconsciously. When practicing, recording, try playing to a metronome or drum track.

F major or F minor? I ask because you have written in lower case and some people do that for minor chords.

Key of G would be:

G, Am, Bm, C, D, Em, F#dim

Asus is a substitute for Am. F (or Fm) does not belong to the key so can be seen in one of two ways. Both require a bit of theoretical understanding.
If you’re writing songs and need to run an analytical eye across the make up and structure etc. I highly recommend Justin’s Practical Music Theory. Check it out here. The first two modules are free to access. https://www.justinguitar.com/store/practical-music-theory

Thanks il look at Justin’s course for key.

Yer it helps massively knowing what key it’s like your pallet of paint you can use. Or course you can add accidental or relative key notes or chords but I’ve had to learn this as helps for what you can do in bridge ect to mix it up

Thanks Richard. Il go to the recording studio once I finish the lyrics. My tech guy is amazing. I’m not great with metronome but he adds a drum beat for me ti play to which matches the strumming pattern. Il get it in time in studio.

I’ve almost finished it here’s the bridge

Lyrics

Heavens face is a world of magic
Several light years in the sky
If we could travel to any other planet
Might as well be mine

Skies above there’s peace in us
Help us find a way
Many of us have lost our trust
Let love find a way

Do you believe in love?
Have you got faith?
In the never ending journey
In the human race

Science is the very fabric
That makes us question why
If we could travel to any other planet
Might as well be mine

Nothing is a place of pure fiction
It doesn’t exist nor does it die
But out of that place of pure nothin
In dreams we’ve built our cities to the sky

Do you believe in love?
Do you keep your faith?
In the never ending journey
Of the human race.

I really like this Ali. I love a good original played on acoustic guitar and this one fell into that category. Great job :+1:
