Nut files

Hi all. Wannabe luthier here. I’ve made 5 different kits and am learning to set up. It’s a process. I’m going to invest in some nut files.

MusicNomad have some very pricey diamond-coated sets and Ibanez has a metal set for not a whole lot less. (135.euro.and.110 euro through Thomann)

I did buy the Harley Benton 10 euro set. Enough said.

Does anyone have experience.to share and/or advice to offer?

Japanese made and selling for around $61 USD the last time I did a currency conversion.

I have this set. I don’t build guitars, so the nut files are a bit of a luxury for me and they don’t get a ton of use, but I’m very happy with them. They are expensive, but I guess you are paying for accuracy and quality - I’m not expecting to ever buy another set. I’ve got my money back in not paying for set ups - although there’s always a risk I’ll do more harm than good … couple of swipes too many and it’s new nut time!

Picked up the Ibanez set from Thomann last year, well worth the investment, as they will likely outlast me !!

Thanks @mathsjunky - I found some similar Hosco products on Thomann and guess I’ll go with those.

I imagine once you are spending this kind of money on them, different brands are of a similar quality. Thanks for the tip @TheMadman_tobyjenner

Thanks @Richard_N I’ll.see if I can find similar from a European vendor, otherwise it’s import/customs taxes too.

Of course that’s entirely your choice but I think that your shipping, customs, and tax would need to be around 50 Euros before they became at least as expensive as the Ibanez files, which in all likelihood are OEMs of the Hiroshima files.

$1. Does the job just fine.

They did, first time around. Now they are pretty much blunt.
