I will try to recondition the nut, butā¦
Hey Chip!
Although Iām very interested in your projectā¦
Iām also a hot air balloon pilot⦠can you explain what happened with the crash? I know in Albuquerque, the ā Hot Air Balloon Capital of the Worldā, most of us pilots carry at least $1,000,000 in liability insurance⦠was the accident not covered for your damages?
I canāt wait to see what happens with the Starcaster as well!!! Good luck!!!

The fellow in question talked me in to being a nice guy. (I usually try to be fairā¦) He said his crew could dismantle and build and they were a āprofessional bunchā of guys. So by the time I went to my insurance company they refused to consider it since I didnāt bring them in to start with.
He was flying late in the day with a group of tourists. He says he hit a pocket of hot air and just dropped out of the sky while cranking on the burner. Luckily nobody was seriously injured, but one lady wrenched her shoulder hanging on to the ropes, and another guy had a minor sprain.
I hate to be an ass, but why do I have to be the cautionary tale to pilots everywhere?
LeSigh. At least itās done now
(He offered us a free ride in his balloon at the beginning of all this, but we wonāt ever put our lives in HIS hands!)
First crack at sanding. I need to find my random orbit sander to smooth the edges and do the curves.
Measure the length of it and check amazon or similar. I bought a set of ten bone nuts that just needed gluing for something like $6. Only needed one, so I have extras for, well, it is probably all Iāll ever need even if I could give 5 away.
That one looks to be plastic by the uneven edge and possible burr on string 4. A new one might be super simple.
Thanks, Mike
That makes too much sense.
That guitar might be a fun project, but - like mine - needs a full strip and rebuild. Do you think you will attempt it? Might be some routing or chisel work involvedā¦
Poor olā thing!
Ooo nooo, not me, if it happens I will take it to a guitar maker or a friend if he thinks it would be nice to earn some extra money⦠I am not in a position to sit still and focus with a different way of sitting like I sit when playing guitar and so for long and do odd jobs like thatā¦
I draw the line at replacing strings and a cleaning cloth over the guitar
Greetings and I see clean wood ā¦
Canāt say I blame you thereā¦
Clean wood, but I donāt know what to do about that gouge. I believe it will be under the back cover so rather than fill it I might just seal and paint over it.
Side 2 finally clean. I tried chipping off the paint/finish but I donāt have the touch. I ended up gouging the body pretty severely. Lots of sanding later, it is barely noticable. Sides are next, then repair/glue before starting refinishing.
It is looking good chip I do hope you didnāt take a hammer and chisel to it mind he he cheers Hec
Hehe!
No, no hammer. I tried to work under it with an older, less sharp woodworking chisel that I use for scraping instead of shaping. I think I recovered from the blunder, but I obviously need more practice removing this type if finish!
One thing at a time, but I am learning a bunch about the construction that I had no idea of. Like the fact that the center piece of the guitar body is glued to the two lateral pieces. I had imagined that the body was just two pieces, joined at the common edge - like a cabinet face - so that the grain on each side was a mirror of the other. I cannot think why it would be better to make it from three pieces, unless the center piece is cheaper⦠Maybe funkier or inferior grain (it is getting cut up a bit for the internal hardwareā¦), or otherwise different. I donāt think that it would be stronger with three, but maybe it is⦠shrug
Yeah, chip, you are right. I have done a few, and they have all been like that, and get this, the latest one I have done was so cheap and not worth anything, but I decided to do it up just fast and not even bothered about it, I done it as an army project for the falling on poppy day with my old call sign on it, and now I donāt want to get rid of it man it is brilliant man
forgot to add brilliant to look at I meant it is no way a strat
All good Bruddah!
Hmm⦠I really like the olive green against the black pick-guard
Thats way cool
