"Old Love" (E. Clapton) - instrumental cover + something else ;)

Hi,

I’ve always liked the chord progression of Eric Clapton’s “Old Love”, ever since I heard it for the first time. I decided to make a cover attempt by - as usual! - improvising over it. So, here it is, in the key of Am, just like the original.

And, just for fun, something else that everybody knows

I don’t know how much time I’ll be able to spend here with you, as the treatment I currently undergo requires 3 days of hospitalization every 2 weeks. I even may not have enough energy to record something new… That’s something I can’t help :worried:

Excellent performances: your playing on ‘Old Love’ is particularly good; the melody you’ve created has lots of variations and a really good shape to it.

Two different performances - both are amazing. To be honest It’s difficult for me to say which one better fits my personal preferences…
Keep playing, keep enjoying your hobby - I wish you all the best for your 72nd birthday!!!

Both were nice :slightly_smiling_face: I liked the second one more though, since it made me want to dance despite my broken leg…

Sending good thoughts. Oh … and Happy Birthday, Tomasz :rainbow:

Both of your performances are very good and enjoyable. I really like your improvising on the first and your take of ‘I Shot the Sherrif’ has a great feel. Very accomplished!

@beejay56 @JackPK @JokuMuu @AJSki2fly : Thanks a lot, guys, for the positive comments and B-Day wishes, your support means a lot to me. As regards the songs - well, I usually record the chord progression and use it as a basis for improvisation; I do not necessarily attempt to reproduce the tune that’s the vocal line in the original version (except when I play a typical instrumental piece, just like Hank Marvin’s “Atlantis” I posted some time ago). That’s my approach; it’s probably some kind of inheritance of past years when I played gigs with a singer and it was my role to play a solo somewhere in the middle of the song. At that time I knew like 30% of what I know now about improvisation… So, naturally, I’m trying to make up for it, with varying results, of course

Great job Tomaz! I really loved the Clapton cover. I am especially fond of slow blues.

Tomasz,

Another pair of stellar performances!!! “Old Love” was spot-on & your 2nd feature evokes good memories of teenage me, sitting in my car waiting for my girlfriend to come out of her school & rocking to that song!!! Good days & it felt good to remember!!! Thank you my friend!!!
Happy 72nd birthday!!! I hope your hospital time isn’t too terribly unpleasant. Good luck!

@TheCluelessLuthier @twistor59 @CATMAN62 Many thanks, guys, for listening and comments. I’m really glad you liked my recent recordings; trust me: I had a lot of fun playing and recording. “Old Love” is so inspiring in terms of improvisation as it actually has a form of a slow blues.
Oh, and thanks for the good wishes. I’m trying hard to be patient even though it doesn’t always come easy…

Two super performances Tomasz. I really like the way you’ve created your own chord progression for the songs and then improvised over them. Great stuff.
I’m sending you my best wishes regarding your health issues.

Gordon - thanks so much for listening, your positive opinion and good wishes; I do appreciate any expression of support during these difficult days… And playing my guitar is something that really helps, as a nice distraction from the health problems.

It’s your choice, of course; I’m glad you listened to “Old Love” and, obviously, liked it, thank you!
BTW, my arrangement of “I Shot…” isn’t very much reggae-like  More like a moderate tempo rock ballad. But please don’t think I insist on listening. It was meant as an addition to my main performance this month, something on a lighter note…
