After having a clean out and looking for a song I wrote years ago, I came across this, It is not my writing and I may Know of the man it came from who will most certainly have passed away now. He was well into the blues and played slide guitar, I sat for many an hour trying to learn from this Guy. However, it looks to me that it has been written pretty professionally and if we look at the bottom we can read STAY OUT OF THE SOUTH. Is this a blues standard? I was wondering if anybody recognises the music, Or if Justin or Richard would be able to shed some light on it. Thank You HEC
I am not sure if it is the same song, but ‘Stay Out of the South’ was written and first recorded by Jim Miller and Charlie Farrel in 1927. Here is a recording from 1928 by Sophie Tucker. Stay Out of the South - Sophie Tucker
Interesting Mark I have listened to her but am still a bit unsure, If it was off my late friend it doesn’t sound like something he would like not the way Sophie is singing it but I may be wrong, it was in among stuff I had from years ago so who knows
Dang Hec,
You really come up with some interesting stuff! let us know if you find out any more about this piece.
Have you tried to play it?
Hi Chip, yeah it’s strange trying to play something but you don’t know how it sounds, I was looking for a song I wrote years ago for my niece’s 18th birthday I wrote it to the chords of BAD MOON RISING taught her dad how to play it, then performed it in front of about 100 people mostly teenagers. Great memories, So yes I found those chords and also the chords and lyrics to a favourite song of mine called Stardust, Again hand wrote, And I am sure I have the proper sheet music to Stardust somewhere, fond memories indeed
I have just played it through and gravitated towards a bit of a ragtime swing groove at a moderate tempo.

Wow thanks, Richard, And now that does sound like the song @TheCluelessLuthier suggested, it has to be, well I have not got a clue where that came from, but thank you all, I will frame it and hang it Cheers Hec
I think this is the one mark suggested, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FGWAZuKWa6w, cheers again Mark
