Hi Carl, welcome to the community. You’ve found a very supporting gruop of people here, who will help you, whenever you’ll have a question. Have fun to reactivate your skills!
Mitchell is a house brand sold by Guitar Center stores here in the states. Probably not the highest quality but I love it
Hey Dave - welcome!
Your comment about this being a “journey measured in years, not months” certainly rings true with me. I started February 2021 with module 1 and am now only on module 10, also struggling with the F chord. But I do make slow, consistent progress as long as I keep committed to focused, regular practice. This thread is great for showing me that this old fart (62) isn’t alone in his guitar journey!

Carl, welcome to the community. Sounds like you are having so much fun that sore fingers are just of reminder of making progress. If you follow all of Justin’s course videos, song lessons, etc. you will get to where you want to be.
have to agree with my neurologist that learning new skills at 65 is a bit like chipping away at concrete as opposed to the “ molding putty” experience of youth
@think2100 Jay, I was thinking that “molding putty” doesn’t last, but once you get that concrete chipped away you are rock solid. Follow all of Justin’s suggestions from the very first video and try the song app and the appropriate song videos for each level and you will learn. I’m 67 and found that the more I follow Justin’s course and practice, the easier it is to learn new things on the guitar.
Bought a new guitar and joined JustinGuitar shortly after, but not steady. Seams I’m always starting over.
I’m 77, retire and I can’t start over too many more times.
@21Sandpipper12 Ernie, welcome to the community. I’m only 67, but I know how you feel. I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve had to start over. For me the secrets to progress in Justin’s course are to find a time that you can always practice, whether it is at the beginning of the day (which I do before coffee) or later at night and make sure your practices are fun. Believe me, if you can consistently set aside 20-30 min each day to follow Justins’ course and have fun with your guitar you will make progress.
@asterope Carolyn, welcome to the community. Have fun and stick with it with Justin’s course and enjoy the journey.
I’m having a blast at the moment and my only real problem is focusing on a single thing. I keep seeing licks and runs that I want to practice which would combine several subjects at once, such as scale sequences and legato etc. Slash, Iron Maiden and Gary Moore are right at the forefront because the slower melodic lines can help with my daily practice while also being musical. I’m still doing the finger gym and 4 fret/4 finger run up the neck to strengthen my fingers again and also get my fingering and picking synchronized. Muscle memory is coming back and I’m loving the guitar again
Hello and welcome to all recent arrivals to the kennel. I hope you’ve found a comfy spot and some doggy treats to keep your tail wagging.
Hi Guys, I’ve picked up the Guitar and put it down over the years. I’m 53 and decided that I want to have a goal in life to focus on. Especially since I’ve had some friends and colleagues pass away this year, who were far too young to be taken. So my aim is to follow the course all the way through and try to get to the magic 10k hours of learning. I don’t want to have any regrets in life just thinking about doing things and not doing it. I’m not an absolute beginner, but I have massive gaps in my ability and knowledge.
Hello Kevin, and a warm Welcome to the community. What a pleasure to meet you .
I wish you a wonderful guitar journey.
And I absolutely agree with you about having a goal in life to focus on. And playing the guitar is definitely a fantastic one .
Besides, I love Wales . I’ve been there a few times. The most impressive experience there was walking the Pembrokeshire Coast Path with my mum. The landscape is amazing .
Thanks for the welcome. Yes Wales is a beautiful country. We had a holiday in and around Pembroke this year, so relaxing. Going back in 2023. Really looking forward to my guitar journey.
Hello Kevin and welcome.
Sometimes we need a real kick up the backside to get us into gear. I hope you enjoy you guitar adventure.
Hi, Jo from Florida. Been practicing since I was 16, on and off through the years. Now I’m 65 and with more free time II seem to be more committed to daily practice. I really enjoy the Justin course and I have bought a lot of courses in my time. It’s the best!

Hello and welcome to the community Jo.
Glad to read that you are enjoying Justin’s course.
Hi, I’m Joe from New Jersey in the USA. 66 years old and still trying to learn guitar. Will be retiring this year, so I hope to have a lot more time to dedicate to regular practice.
Hey Joe
I’ve been retired for a few years. It made a big difference in the time I have to practice and, as a result, the amount of fun I’m having learning an playing songs,.
I hope it works for you, too.
