I think I might belong here as well (born under the not so bad sign of 1961). My fingers are crossed that old dogs can actually learn new tricks, but even if they can’t, at least I’m going to give it a go =)

I’m not sure ‘old dogs’, in my case, ‘old HappyCat’ can learn new tricks or not.
Abadd9 is treating me real hard. I’ve been at it just shy of a month now and I still ain’t there yet… :frowning: This Abadd9 is following a Dbadd9, so Dbadd9 to Abadd9 to Ab, Abadd9, Ab ending in Dbmaj7.

I’ve never played any of these chords up till just less than a month ago. And a new trick is putting it mildly. My fingers feel like they’re tied in a knot.
A couple other new to me chords are treating me hard too. The Dbadd9 to Db and the reverse of Db to Dbadd9.
These seem to be some chords that are taxing my fingers real hard. The spread of the fingers is pretty wide. Wider than I normally do, that’s for sure.
Whether this 'ol HappyCat can learn them or not remains to be seen. The goal is to use them in a song. The changes come by pretty fast too.
I’m taking it as a challenge (a new trick) is best I can come up with.
Other than that, I dearly want to play this song and these chords are a important part of the song. I gotta play them, or I can’t play the song. Time will tell!
I think I wish my fingers were a bit longer…

I figure I should introduce myself finally =) I am in BLIM4 and have not posted much to date.
My name is Katie. I am 64. I have had a (cheap) acoustic guitar for more than 50 years but never really learned how to play it other than a few Bluegrass and Ragtime songs learned from tab. I’ve had great sweeping multi-year cycles of not playing at all. I got a new acoustic around 2001, which inspired me for a while, but then I fell off again.

That is, until I lost the ability to sing due to an accident which left me with a paralyzed vocal chord. It is amazing what a person can take for granted. I never realized how much I needed to sing until I could not.

That was 3 years ago. Afterwards, I slowly (at first) became more focused on guitar. I started learning the instrument for real, started learning theory, notes on the fretboard, playing and experimenting every chance I could.
I very small hands and some damage to my fretting hand/fingers, so that together with little free time has made it a challenge to make progress.

To me Blues guitar is a lot like singing, and I need to be able to make my guitar sing like I used to with my voice. Getting to that point has become incredibly important to me. I play in the morning before work, and as soon as I can after work, and as much as possible on the weekends if I can swing it.

Welcome, Katie. I feel for you, I can’t imagine not being able to sing. I hope learning guitar is a great help.

Hi Katie @artfulfox

Welcome here and I wish you a lot of fun :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Justin has a number of nice courses for sale, but also free arrangements, both blues and pop, that are Chors Melody - at the same time and that is for me nicely replace the vocals, such as ‘Yesterday’ by the Beatles… who knows, maybe that’s something for you… :grinning_face_with_big_eyes:

New player here. I am 62 years old and have been learning for four weeks now. It is nice to see others here who have embarked on this journey before me and have been successful.

I have always loved music, but have never before tried it for myself. I am looking forward to growth and development.
