I wanted to share this cover I just recorded by one of my new favorite bands, Rattlesnake Milk. I discovered them recently and anyone I’ve shown them to really liked what they heard. I don’t feel like they get enough recognition - the lead guitarist in their band Andrew Chavez does an amazing job creating a dreamy, desert atmosphere with his tone and playing and it inspires me to pick up the guitar and play.
I’m not certain if I’m playing the song exactly right, but it sounds like the notes are identical to me. I had to transcribe it myself since no tabs are available anywhere and I think I got pretty close. I’ll be publishing them to ultimate-guitar soon when I’ve got it formatted properly from Guitar Pro.
Other than the chorus lead lines, the verse lead guitar reminds me a bit of Dire Straits / Sultans of Swing with how guitar phrases echo after the vocals and they use it to quite dramatic effect.
Awesome playing, Ryan. Thanks so much for sharing; I must admit I’ve never heard this song, and it’s actually great. Yes, some Dire Straits’ echoes can be heard there, while the vocal line and some of your licks are reminiscent of J.J.Cale. Your strat sound is a nice complement to the overall mood of the song.
As a surf rock connoisseur, I felt like standing up & brushing the sand off my posterior! Yes, I hear Dire Straits, a bit of J.J. Cale but also some Cliff Richards/Hank Marvin/Shadows in there somewhere!
Awesome cover Bryan!
Thanks so much for the support everyone! Glad you liked it, and happy to spread the name of Rattlesnake Milk as much as I can.
@rick111 Thanks Rick! I’ve put a lot of hours in this past year. The past few months have been a bit tumultuous and unfocused but the guitar has never left my side through it.
Thank you!! I put in a ton of hours in this time period. The past few months have been a bit hectic and out of focus but I’m still chasing the dream every day. A deal with the devil sounds about like what I’ve been dealing with. Looking forward to getting back on track soon.
