One minute changes exericse D&A

Hello,

I’m a complete beginner. I started this exercise with only 11 changes. Then, I moved quite easily to around 20. But now I’ve been stuck for days at 25-28 changes. Should I keep trying or move on to the next lesson? Any other tips on how to improve?

You’re better to move on and keep practicing the A and D. Having more chord to practice changes with will help keep it more interesting and also help build your calluses so you don’t end up with grooves from practicing the same chords.

Hey Stefanos

Welcome to the group and thanks for posting.

Remember the magical ingredients of regular (not too long) practices with a good nights sleep between. The brain does a lot of consolidation of learned skills during sleep. Some times stuff just clicks the next day.

And, as @stitch wrote, it is key to keep the enjoyment up. When it’s a bummer, it’s no fun to practice as a beginner. So “good on ya” for asking for advice.

Also check how “tense” you are.
When tense, muscles must first relax before they can move to the next chord. When I started (well, sometimes I still do) I could feel the tension in my shoulders, neck, wrists, strumming arm. I also try to avoid the word should and replace it with could, and that helps me to relax more.

It is a slow l o n g trip. Even Paul Simon says there remains a universe for him to explore.

Cheers,
Bruce
