I have a neighbor, Winston, who is a retired stone carver and jewelery maker. He has had a serious of health problems and I helped him out with small favors like rides to the doctor and feeding his cat while he’s in hospital. To say thanks he wanted to make me a large belt buckle or bolo tie clip. Neither would be of use to me, so I suggested a pick tray to replace the old tea cup saucer I was using. After much shaping and grinding and polishing, meet my Picasso marble Stratocaster pick tray!
Very cool!
What a nice pick tray! Michael and Winston, both have my sympathy ![]()
Nice one, and great story of origin too!
Btw, after reading that I just had to snap a picture of my pick tray (bowl?)
Backstory: when I was a kid we had a nice elderly couple as neighbors. The guy was ex-military and had seen service during an internal revolt in 1930. That piece was a memento he kept from that era, the story he told was that this was grenade that misfired and he kept it as sort of a good luck charm, making it into an ashtray later. He gave it to my father when they moved into a retirement home, and I’m its keeper now.
So, that’s a really cool, thoughtful gift!!! Love it!!!
