One Take Stairway Solo Loop

I was also thinking about calling this thread “I should stick to playing rhythm.”

One of my goals for this year was to play the Stairway to Heaven solo, I wanted to improve my lead playing, and Jimmy Page and Led Zeppelin were my original inspiration to pick up guitar, so I figured the Stairway solo would be a good thing to study and practice. While learning this solo I thought once I learned the repetitive phrase I was home free as those call-and-response sort of licks at the end didn’t sound that bad, as you can see, I’m still struggling with remembering them, let alone playing them. I almost didn’t post this, hopefully, it’s not too hard on the ears.

I’m also welcome to any feedback, it does not need to be positive, I’ve been playing for three years now and I know I’ve been slacking on practice vs. playing.

That was a really good effort Dale. Nice work with the looper as well. Far above my play grade but I thought I’d post to let you know I enjoyed it.

Nice job so far!

To improve the solo further, I’d consider adding to the practice routine:

  • String muting to avoid unwanted noise of open strings.
  • String bending to make bends more in tune.

Justin has great lessons about these.
