That was mega folks. Big heaps of thanks for all who performed but also those who supported in the audience. It was really good to see Justin make an appearance and be supportive of our efforts !!

Personally from me, I went back and looked at the comments that came up during my slot and was blown away by what folks said. Yes it was my first time but I only know one way to go and that’s full throttle, so glad I made folks feel good. Be more than happy to do an exit next time, as there surely needs to be a next JGC Open Mic, for sure.

From my point of view Lieven I don’t mind setting those up as far as organisation goes.

In terms of performing I am not a very quick study when it goes to getting myself proficient and comfortable with playing new songs I learn so performance wise I would prefer to do it bi monthly at least. But hey, I can always attend as member of the crowd if we get a lot more performers next time!

That was a great afternoon / evening, everyone, I’m really glad that I put my name in to play, even without my talented partner joining in on vocals. (That ended up my own ‘fault’ - just a note for anyone not there!) I will look forward to future Open Mics as well, and maybe will sign on as a duo at some point. At minimum as Adrian says I’d be happy to enjoy the performances as a member of the audience. Mari

Justin’s monthly suggestion sounds awesome! I’m with Adrian on this one though, I’m doing Justin’s PMT right now alongside another course so learning and polishing new songs for a monthly open mic would be pushing it a little. Having said that seeing how well this trial run went I’m sure there won’t be a shortage of people interested in filling in the slots each month. Or another suggestion would be to do it bi-monthly and then sprinkle in some seasonal open mic specials as well. Anyway I’m sure you guys will figure it out. I’m just really excited about how awesome it turned out and that it may become a regular thing now.

Congrats and thanks to everyone! Performers, organisers, and audience, it was a great way to spend a morning (there’s that time zone difference again!). I really enjoyed the music and the banter had a great community vibe; part gig, part bunch of friends having a bit of an informal jam/hangout together. I might even be brave enough to put my hand up next time ;D

What a fabulous event that was. Congrats to each and every performer, every performance was a joy to watch and listen to.

My thanks to Jason for acting on the idea and putting altogether, Adrian for providing a venue, every one who joined just to listen and encourage, and Richard, Lieven, and Justin for allowing this to happen and stopping by.

I think the event was in keeping with the ethos of the JustinGuitar brand. And maybe it presents an opportunity through the video to market the Forum? I understand that was the intention in running the Festive Season contest, and (sadly) the person who joined to submit and entry and then won has not been back.

As Jason says, I think this is a great next step on from posting recordings in AVOYP, perhaps even from the “single one take” recordings, given one has a live audience.

I’d say that the trial was an absolute success. Almost two hours that went by with a minimum technical glitches. In fact I’d say the sound and visual quality was excellent.

I know taking the stage is a huge step. Without a physical audience, you can’t feed of the energy. For some it might be a good thing to have no eyes on you directly and this could be an excellent step, growing to a physical stage some day soon.

A general advice to all of you.

This isn’t a critique but a general, warm ‘fatherly’ advice in life

I hope to inspire you to feel even better on stage next time!

Don’t apoligize, don’t apoligize for ANYTHING

-Your English is fine! If your english isn’t clear, we’ll ask to repeat. I heared people with other mothertongues speaking nicer English than some natives I’ve heard in my life. even so; if your English is basic; we’ll find a way to understand you!

-If you missed a beat (or 6), mangled up a chord (or 12) and forgot half of the lyrics, nobody will judge you or apply a label for it. Learn from it, aknowledge to yourself. no need for disclaimers

A stage demands a bit of confidence.

If an audience feels you don’t believe yourself, they won’t believe you either, no matter how sincere and authentic your act is.

It isn’t even wrong to ‘act’ a little more confident than you really are. I think Toby did an EXCELLENT job doing exactly THAT; he threw in some entertainment and acted like he owned the place with the woodstock act. He probably looked a lot more certain of himself than he felt inside. did that matter? absolutely not because we had top class entertainment.

On stage, it’s ok to exaggerate a bit.

It will convey confidence and people will feel better if the person guiding their attention shows confident in doing so. Being on stage, you “lead” the attention for a while. people like confident leaders. this also works for performers

You guys did an excellent job while you might think of yourself “I usually do a -little- better than that”

That’s what performing life is often about; You practice until you can do it better than it needs to be so you have a little margin

Okies, finally found the open mic video I’ve been hearing so much about, and was mesmerized by the awesomeness! Great seeing you all, from all over the world, at different levels of progress, at different stages of life, joined together by music. It’s really a beautiful thing. I’ll try to stop in a play a tune sometime soon. That’s a threat! Haha.
