As I reflect, I just wish I hadn’t butchered the middle of my second song so severely.

But that is par for the course at my play and performance level. Consistency of performance is something I am still working at … slowly getting better, but a long way to go.

So, for those of you perhaps in the audience at these OMs or reading the posts and wondering if you are ready, I’d say if you’ve done a One Take Wed video even just posted up in AVOYP, generally doing OK when you turn the camera on, then you are ready.

And as you can see, as Justin says, nobody died when the making the odd flub. One keeps going, safe and secure in the knowledge that we are all learning and growing as musicians. And this is simply a good learning experience as one keeps on keeping on.

So, take the plunge and sing up for OM IV when (not if) the call for interest is posted.

Spent another evening in the courtyard, with my daughter and a few beers, watching the OM3 recording. Another wonderful starscape and again many shooting stars but the rising stars of the forum were a real pleasure to watch. Without being caught up in the event, watching it second time around, is always better to get a full appreciation of everyone’s performances and to me the OMs are going from strength to strength.

It is a testament to the strength of this community and the warmth and friendliness of everyone here, that we can come together like this and have a great time. I hope that spirit encourages others, like Dennise, to come along and join the audience for the first time in the future. And for other debutants like Roberto and Paraic dipping their toes in the OM arena. It’s great to see what talent is out there but also where Justin’s teaching AND the support of this community can take you.

Come on in, everyone is welcome.

On a personal note, I think I’ll be recording a cleaner version of Feel Like Makin Love. Nerves got the better of me on the day and a little panic set in but that’s all part of the learning curve. How to handle and channel those feelings. Like David commented, it didn’t go like that in rehearsals but it is what it is. But it’s such a great song it needs to be revisited, maybe as a Madman’s Footnote.

@stuartw – Stuart. For starters it’s about joining when you are ready and what Clint says is all with the right intentions of getting folk to stretch themselves. If you don’t do that you stagnate. I would also say that there are not 1000s here, you only need to look at the bottom of the JGC homepage to see that.

As has been said many times before, these are all stepping stones that build confidence and expand technique. I assuming you are actually learning songs at the moment? Are you recording them and playing them back? If not start doing that now so you can hear your progress. Then take the next step and record then post in AOVYP. Use the Beginners thread for starters Beginner's Thread put yourself out there so you can get feedback. No one will rip you to shreds it will be constructive and encouraging advice you can learn from.

Until you do this you won’t know what your standard is and if you’re ready to go to the next level in AOVYP. Let an Open Mic.

But rather than take a negative attitude to someone who’s just trying to encourage people here, start pushing some of your own boundaries. Play songs, record songs post songs. If you don’t try you will never know. My first recording posted here were pants but I got good feedback, advice and encouragements and try to do the same for all that have arrived here since. But if I don’t hear you playing…, how can I do that.

Why am I not surprised to hear a song by the Church? I must dip deeper than ‘under the Milky way’… You sounded a tad nervous before starting, but once the first tone was played, you were straight into the groove. Cool song and not a duff note sung. You have a great voice and should share it more generously. Maggie’s Hope sounds even better with the visuals than first time round. Bravo.

Ming the Merciless conjuring the eyes of Lennon out of thin air, making strings sing without plucking them, tapping others to some strange beat before tying knots in his fingers when they clash in the middle of the neck… Part 2: more dark arts of the same ilk but with added flamenco fingers knockin’ on wood. This is your second year? I know all about the Crossroads. I hope your soul was worth it…

Terry Pratchett is alive and well and in Normandy, but badass with tats ‘n’ shades. Unfamiliar with the song but sounds fab. Not sure if it’s the singing lessons, or as I suspect, just increased confidence. Green Day is not usually my cup of tea, but I could listen to this all day long Vive le fou!

(I shall ignore my name being taken in vain by those in the cheap seats.) What a relief to hear a civilised voice, even if it has to beam across the world from the land of rising sun. That’s some debut, man. And what a song. There’s a real sensitivity to your voice. Superb performance. Guitar complimented it well, but WOW! Sliding into song two, I was much more aware of the strumming/rhythms and you seemed to be looser too. Worked really well. You need to perform more.

Now that’s a campfire I’d love to sit around. I think you know your acoustic/singing is my favourite genre and this is no different. Must try that thumb-strumming myself. Many men have messed with Bob the bard, but this meddling deserves vibes.

Dude’s got riddim in spades… And like Guitar George- he knows all the chords! One of the most unique styles on the forum. I can’t believe you took up David’s impromptu challenge and pulled it off with such panache. Bravo!

What a boppy poppy sound. Cool beanz! All your previous open mic experience shining through. Believe it or not I guessed The Monkees before you started. (taped it with a mic from our b&w TV in Beirut). Would have liked the backing band on this too… but I’m greedy! And another encore?!? Neither tears nor fears on this one (it’s usually only a mad world on the forum.)

A big Well Done! to all the performers who pulled all the stops out again in what seemed like a fab event. I’m already looking forward to the next one. (I hope to provide a little ‘balance’ on that one)
