Another Open Mic and another wonderful event. We had one debutante - kudos to @simon_plays_bass.
Many thanks to @eric.lennon for taking the MC chair, giving his time during a family visit. Thanks to @DavidP and @TheMadman_tobyjenner for behind the scenes roles and ensuring smooth running.
Of course, thanks to all performers and audience alike.

Great triads from @Malz !
Missed last nightās show, is there a link up yet?
Not yet, Ian. The link will always be added to the first post in this topic.
Cheers David, much appreciated
The other Madman is on the case with the video.
Thanks to all involved in the OM last night, may it be āon stageā or ābehind the scenesā! It was a fantastic show as usual and I thoroughly enjoyed all performances.
I totally agree with Jenn @Jenndye429, I also love the variety of songs and genres, but also that the OMs are for all ranges of playing skills, no one needs to shy away. There is room for everyone and each performance is appreciated. Thatās just amazing and shows the great, positive and supportive vibes of the JG community.
A special congrats to Simon @simon_plays_bass for a fabulous debut, very well done! Please be proud of yourself, you did great stepping up that stage.
And kudos to Dominique @domi7 for handling the dying camera in that calm manner and then picking out these sweet and lovely sounding tunes.
Thank you, Lisa!
And thank you to everyone else for the nice words!
I felt strangely unaware of how well or badly I played, I just felt I usually play those a bit more fluently.
@Richard_close2u
I saw you asking on the names of what I played.
Iāll quickly explain.
Both donāt have names, should I maybe give them names?
The first still dates from my Ukulele time and I still play it on the first four strings only. I think I only strummed it back then.
When I learned the guitar, somehow it sounded better to me leaving it at those four high strings only.
But I changed two chords for a slightly more interesting sound.
The second is one of two peaces that date from me taking Justinās lesson where he takes the open chord shapes and just tries them higher up the fretboard. In that bit treating the C shape, he mentioned, the C and the resulting D would work fine with a G chord and then, when I tried that with fingerpicking, half of the piece was born already.
And then, when I ādevelopedā those two pieces, most of the times, my brain/ears said, āplay thisā. And I had to search on the guitar the note my brain/ear wanted me to play.
Thatās fun and quite satisfying, but like I mentioned in the chat, that leaves me wondering how much I just copy exact bits I heard somewhere at some time before, or if there hopefully is some creativity involved. I prefer to think that thereās at least SOME bit from myself in those pieces!
Sorry for the long explanation!
Edit - PS. Gladly I was quite a bit less nervous than the first time!
And - congratulations to Simon @simon_plays_bass for your first open mic! You did very well!
Thanks for the kind words, we just had a chance to read them.
I attended as an audience member for the first time, arrived late but enjoyed what I saw! Particularly enjoyed Diamonds and Rust by @Eccleshall
Might be tempted to put my name down as a participantā¦.!!!
Richard
Thanks for the kind words, Richard. Iāve enjoyed the challenge of getting to grips with that song. Putting the words to the accompaniment took some work for sure.
Do give it a go - as @Lisa_S so rightly says, they are for everyone from beginner onwards who wants to perform
Recording up top in post 1.
just had chance to watch the show, a big thanks to everyone that work behind the scenes to bring this to life and to all the performers. Great work as always by all the performers especially @simon_plays_bass for his debut
@Eccleshall thanks Rory for bringing a great genre to the show your choices are always great to listen to and Diamonds In The Rust was a standout for me, beautiful picking.
@Alexeyd wow mate, that was really some workout and just exceptional, I know you mention nerves but have to say you never come across as nervous to me and your guitar work is mind blowing
@Malz Iād completely forgotten about that second song, As Tears Go By what a great son and wow Lara what a great vocal, more please
Great work everyone.
I hope everyone who attended, performed, or helped with the organization had a good time as I had playing and also watching my fellow performers. Thanks to the organizers for the hard work, to the audience for booking the time for watching it, and my fellow performers for putting once more all their guitar skills at work to make a good show. Great debut, Simon @simon_plays_bass. Hope to see more Justin guitar students doing their debut in the open mics at any level they currently are.
Pleased that you enjoyed the song, thank you.
Very enjoyable show everybody - just saw the recording, what a variety of styles the community covers! Special congrats on your first time @simon_plays_bass hopefully youāll come back for more!
Thanks Craig, appreciate it. Iāve had so much fun learning that oneš
I had a very entertaining evening yesterday watching the recording of the latest open mic
Congratulations to all performers
Such a great variety of different songs, all of them performed with so much talent. Great playing ā¦ and singing
Thank you so much to everyone who put so much effort into the event, sharing their skills and talent in front of or behind the camera.
And again the recording is very much appreciated!
