The audio problems weren’t bad from my view. A little extra distortion can’t hurt, right? You kept your cool and did your thing and it sounded great to me! Love the tempo. It’s great to hear Christmas songs from different countries and in different languages! :ok_hand:

I’ve just listened to the recording of the Livestream Christmas bash. (Have to admit I was watching the football. I’m Scottish and my son-in-law is French so …………:grinning:) Not a good week to be a Harry!

Terrific stuff, you all did so well. What a super show!:clap::clap:

I couldn’t stay the entire time, my garden was asking for a drink before the heat kicks in. Will watch the rest tonight. It’s an inconvenient time for me, missed meditation to be there. Wouldn’t get up at this hour in winter. The playback is the best way to go for me.

Like you, I prefer the Zoom format. This felt pointless to me.

Unfortunately missed the live gig, but just watched the recording. Super show folks, very enjoyable. Congratulations to all the performers and organisers.
Have to say young Trent @tsblack was a big highlight for me. Brilliant performance young man allround. You have a seriously good feel for rhythm, and at such a young age. Looking very forward to your continuing journey.

Cheers, Shane

@Durquhart David, I am sure that the Community OM will continue as an integral part of the JGverse, just another thing that elevates the guitar learning experience that people who choose JustinGuitar as their path to guitar mastery experience.

And reading your post, these thoughts come to mind:

The idea for the Community OM was first mentioned by @Rossco01. He organised and ran the first couple of events. I then felt it was wrong for him to be the one and only person organising the events. So I jumped in to lend a hand, share the load. Later @TheMadman_tobyjenner did the same. Most recently @jkahn stepped up to assist.

This event is truly ‘for the Community, by the Community’. I hope in time others who participate, enjoy, and benefit from the Community OM will step up and be willing to assist in the running of the events.

Toby has refined the way in which we manage the Call For Interest process. And he does this for the Community from the goodness of his heart and desire to continue to ‘pay it forward’ in the JustinGuitar way.

And I hope that does not result in us all sitting back to expect and enjoy the benefits of Toby’s willingness and efforts.

@adi_mrok I’m curious about the sound challenges, Adrian.

I know and appreciate that anytime one does something different things can go awry. That said, I figured that connecting to StreamYard rather than Zoom would be a seamless ‘plug n play’ (excuse the pun), but the common Microsoft twist of ‘plug n pray’ seems to be appropriate.

So I am curious as to what makes the difference in your setup, given that you have delivered numerous live performances at Community OMs with nary a sound challenge?

@Traveler Travis, I was in the ‘green room’ though only able to contribute via the ‘green room’ chat during your soundcheck.

As I experienced it you had two different issues.

Firstly, you had speakers as an audio output on your laptop. So when Justin spoke to you, you heard that from your speakers. And just as you heard him, so your mic through which you were speaking also heard him; hence the echo.

For these events, it is recommended to listen through headphones to avoid that echo loop being created. If that is not possible then the speaker volume needs to be low enough to avoid being picked up by the mic. I listen through speakers during Community OMs when performing and I’d say three things enable me to not cause echo: 1) speakers turned down 2) dynamic vocal mic that has good rejection off axis 3) mic gain on my audio interface is not turned way up that reduces sensitivity.

Secondly, playing your acoustic through the amp, and possibly your vocal also going through the amp, caused the overall sound to be loud to the point of causing digital clipping. You have a wonderful voice, both its timbre and with high volume and projection. Your performance as I heard it was among the loudest of the evening. As you finally performed ie just via the laptop builtin mic, there was no digital clipping and distortion, but I suggest you work on your setup for future keeping this in mind.

@Durquhart David I just wanted to reaffirm what David is saying here. The organisation of the OMs is very much a team effort that developed on the old forum and has continued here. And as David said we kind of took turns setting up the events to start with, including @adi_mrok Adi, after Jason got the ball rolling and before we started to get a little more co-ordinated. So rest assured its not a one man show.

The experience of the many early shows we did, allowed us to develop a wraparound announcement, where before, we had all been writing a new script for each event, with pretty much the same info ! I just started using spreadsheets to collate names etc and created a proforma CFI and that minimised the work involved in the run ups.
But the team is actively engaged behind the scenes, discussing and planning, so its only fair to put out a full name check.

The JGC Open Mic Organisers
@Richard_close2u Richard is the JG Team interface with Justin. (Prior to DP becoming a Mod)
@Rossco01 Jason “inventor” organiser and MC - it was his baby !!!
@DavidP organiser and MC and now part of the JG Team interface
@adi_mrok Adrian provider of the Zoom facility, organiser and resident video editor.
@jkahn a recent new addition to the team and great MC given the hour he does it !!
@TheMadman_tobyjenner me organiser and xls nerd ! And happy to keep on doing so !

Its all these folk that keep the OMs Rocking and separate from the Livestream events.

David there was lots of weird stuff going on for what should have been a lift and shift. We were bouncing DMs throughout the week. One to follow up once Adi gets back from his Xmas travels.

I unfortunately missed the event today (indulging in my other passion, being surfing, although I was lucky enough to score some pumping waves! :call_me_hand::joy:). However just finished watching the recording and well done to everyone, really impressive performances all round!

I still can’t fathom stepping up to the mic, with guitar in hand and cranking out a tune, vocals and all, in front of anyone, let alone a live stream situation like this, with all that goes into that and Justin there MC’ing as well! :scream: My hat is off to all of you, performers, organisers and technical coordinators! All take a massive bow!! :star_struck: :star_struck: :star_struck:

My day job essentially involves supporting Zoom meetings and webinars (from teaching to exams to symposiums/conferences to all staff meetings and everything in between) so I fully appreciate how stressful it is once the curtain is opened and the show begins! All the testing and backup plans can go out the window when something unforeseen happens, however managing to pull through and deliver a top notch performance is beyond impressive! Congratulations again to you all and thank you for delivering a wonderful wrap to the year!

(A side note… although I didn’t attend live so can’t speak to the platform used today (which I have no doubt was great!), but just in case you wish to run using the same tech as for the normal OMs and still have the increased control/feature set, then I know that the Zoom Events platform (being different from standard Zoom meetings) allows for an in-production “green room”/backstage area, along with all the other normal webinar features such as a pre-go live practice session, curating the audience view, floating reaction emojis from audience members, live streaming to YouTube/Facebook/etc, analytics and many other features. I have had some experience with it and would be happy to discuss pros/cons or even arrange a test if anyone’s interested. Feel free to DM me :slightly_smiling_face: Ps not a Zoom sales person either! :joy: I have no affiliation with them but do really like the platform so just happy to assist when/where I can. Cheers! :sunglasses: )
